Jane Nord Obituary

Jane Jennings Nord died peacefully on July 30, 2025, in Augusta, Georgia. She was born on September 4, 1931 in Hogansville, Georgia, but spent the majority of her life in Lakeland, Florida. She attended Dixieland Elementary School, Lakeland High School, and the University of Florida. Jane was preceded in death by her husband, James E. Nord (Jim), whom she married on January 2, 1956, and her parents John Leonard and Ola Mooney Jennings. She is survived by her two children Janelle Ann Nord of Atlanta, and James Nord, Jr. (Wayne), of Augusta. Her most important job was that of homemaker. Through her membership in the Junior League of Greater Lakeland, she took an active part in the establishment of the Children's Rehabilitation Ranch and the Youth Museum of Imperial Polk County. She had various hobbies, including gardening, bridge, and playing the stock market with her investment club. When her children became adults, she returned to work at Peoples Bank of Lakeland, a job she had before marriage, in the Commercial Loan Department. She was also a member of the First United Methodist Church and treasured the friendships she and Jim developed in the BYKOTA Sunday school class. Jane was always the first to the door with a casserole and helping hand. She loved Lakeland and was a wonderful friend and neighbor to many over the years. In 2013, she moved to Augusta to be nearer her children. She will be greatly missed. A private interment will be held at a later date. The family would like to express its sincere gratitude to the staff of Barclay House of Augusta for their care and kindness during the years Jane lived there.
