James Wiley Obituary

Reverend James
W. Wiley
North Augusta, SC - Reverend James W. Wiley, 91, of North Augusta, SC, passed away peacefully at his home. Born in North Augusta, SC, he was the eighth of twelve children born to the late Rev. Claude Seaborn Wiley and Ida Florence Ward Wiley. James was a Church of God minister, a prayer warrior and dedicated to serving God and his congregation throughout his life. He had a heart for people, compassionate, was a fisherman of bass, a fisherman of souls and a builder with his hands, building several churches and a parsonage, as well as a builder for God's kingdom.
James is preceded in death by brothers - Lester, Zach, William Hudson, Herbert, Claude, Charles, Leroy, and sisters - Mary Dell Griffith, Gertie Wren, and Sara Hegwood. He is survived by a sister Frances Campbell, sister-in-laws Lennice Wiley and Joann Stone.
James served the Army Air Corp during World War II. After flying 50 missions over enemy territory and receiving a Purple Heart, he returned home and immediately went to the Church of God Bible Training School, now Lee University in Cleveland, TN, to pursue his call of God. While attending Lee, he met and married Thelma Kathleen Harris. In May, they celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary. One month after their marriage he accepted his first church while continuing his studies earning an Associate of Arts. He served God from 1946 until his retirement in 1985, ministering through several states before settling in South Carolina in 1953. He then served as Associate Pastor for several years before moving to North Augusta; then he served as a Prayer Force Task Minister at the Langley Church of God until his health required him to retire for the third time.
James treasured time spent with his family - his two daughters and their husbands, Shelby and Fred Kroll and Travis and Harold Maness; his four grandchildren including Shannon Maness, Chad Kidd and wife Aimee, Katrina Meador and husband Jimmy, and Cherie Mercer; and his eleven great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Friday, June 13, 11:00 AM, at Langley Church of God, Graniteville, SC. Interment will follow at 3:30 PM in Pinelawn Memory Gardens, Clinton, SC. Pallbearers will be Chad Kidd, Cherie Kidd, Fred Kroll, Harold Maness, Shannon Maness, Jimmy Meador, Katrina Meador, Ted Stringfield, and Lester Wiley.
The family has asked that memorials be made to the Alzheimer's Association, www.alz.org. Friends may call at the Wiley home. The family will greet friends at the Langley Church of God, Graniteville, SC on Thursday, June 12, 2014 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.

A great man of God and Prayer Warrior has departed this life. The Body of Christ on earth will miss him. "He fought a good fight, he kept the Faith, he finished his course". Rev. James Wiley was a leader, mentor, and inspiration to me in the way he served and ministered. Love and prayers for the Wiley Family.
