James Tar Obituary

Mr. James Patrick Tar
AUGUSTA, GA - Memorial Services for Mr. James Patrick Tar, 62, who entered into rest March 11, 2014 will be conducted Saturday morning at 10 o'clock from the Posey Funeral Chapel. Father Jacek Szuster officiating. Interment will be private.
Jim was a native of New Jersey, a former resident of Kentucky, having made Augusta his home for the past 21 years. He was a self-taught artist and the co-owner of Art On Broad. Prior to starting Art On Broad he worked as the Preparator for the Morris Museum of Art. Jim was a talented oil painter and woodworker whose most cherished accomplishment was designing and building the home he and Kristin would share. He enjoyed family beach trips to Edisto, Green Jackets Baseball and rescuing dogs, each of whom became an integral part of his family. Jim had a quick, dry wit and greatly enjoyed exchanging playful banter with his friends and brothers. He was preceded in death by his father, John Tarr and brother, Joseph Tarr.
Survivors include his wife and companion of 26 years, Kristin Varn Tar; his mother Jo Tarr, Winchester, KY; two brothers, Jack Tarr, Lexington, KY and Jeff Tarr, Bradenton, FL; several nieces and a nephew.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday evening from 5 until 7.
Memorials may be made to the CSRA Humane Society, 425 Wood Street, Augusta, GA 30904.

Dear Kristen--You and your beloved Jim are still in our thoughts and prayers. Reading over the many tributes and remembrances of Jim, I came to know him a little more--what a good, generous, talented man! I will miss him sitting on the couch at Art On Broad, and on the 1st baseline at the Greenjackets game. But I know that you miss him so much, much more than words can express. Bless you and Jim.

So very sorry to hear of Jim's passing. Enjoyed many talks with him while he was at the museum and I was at the bank. Very few make lasting impressions, but he certainly did. A great guy and a good man!

I met Jim in Oshkosh, WI, in the 1970's and spent a year in Baja, Mexico camping and traveling with him. Times spent with Jim easily represented the extremes of my past social activities and I will miss him. I was sorry to hear about his passing.

I'm so sad to see this very kind and wonderful person is no longer with us. There'll definitely be an empty spot just behind the home team dugout at Lake Olmstead Stadium. Jim, you'll be dearly missed but never forgotten. Thank you for all the hilarious and great memories.

Jim was intensely sweet. I am pretty sure there were a couple of years when he was the only person over 25 my teenager thought cool. Jim always stopped working to hug hello and listen to my latest stories. He loved justice, animals, music, art and, most of all, Kristen. We will miss him and be forever thankful to have called him friend.
