James S. Walker, Sr.
Aiken - James S. Walker, Sr., 81, of Aiken, South Carolina, passed away on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Born on February 7, 1945, in Great Falls, Montana, he was the son of the late James Oscar Walker and Miriam Frances Jernigan Walker. James was a faithful member of Couchton Baptist Church and a proud Mason with Aiken Masonic Lodge No. 156. He enjoyed restoring old cars, watching NASCAR, cheering on the Braves baseball team, and spending time in the mountains. Mr. Walker was a proud United States Air Force veteran who loved playing his guitar, working in his yard, riding his tractor, and watching westerns. He also enjoyed sitting and people watching and never passed up a trip to Waffle House. Most of all, James loved his children and grandchildren. They were the greatest joy of his life.
Surviving are his children, Kim Jones (Jackie), James S. Walker, Jr. (Amy), Tanya Herron, and Sarah Kneece; eight grandchildren, Morgan Kinard (Riley), Alexis Roberson, Taelor Morris (Bud), Macy Winegardner, Reese Winegardner, Wyatt Winegardner, Alana Herron, and Chasity Kneece; three great-grandchildren, Brooklyn Roberts, Josh Lovett, Gemma Morris; and a soon to be great-grand daughter. Also surviving are his sister, Donna W. Johnston; and a dear friend, Reba Davis. In addition to his parents, Mr. Walker was preceded in death by his loving wife of 28 years, Christine Barfield Walker; brothers, Jerry Walker, John Walker, and Vestos Walker.
The funeral service to celebrate the life of Mr. Walker will be held at 1:30 o'clock on February 22nd at Milton Shealy Funeral Home, Aiken Chapel, with Rev. Troy Murphy officiating. Burial will follow in Aiken Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, beginning at 12:30 o'clock at the funeral home. Milton Shealy Funeral Home, Aiken Chapel, is assisting the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Couchton Baptist Church, 3171 Wagener Road, Aiken, SC 29801.
