James Walter Coffey
AIKEN, SC - James Walter Coffey, affectionately called Walt, age 73, passed away on December 3, 2022.
Walt, born on July 21, 1949, in Hayesville, North Carolina, and grew up in Aiken. He served as a soldier in the United States Army, which included a year long deployment to Vietnam. Upon completing his service, he went on to be a successful entrepreneur by starting his own contracting company, which served the community for more than 30 years.
At age 25, he married the love of his life, Lynn, and they shared 48 happy years together. They have two beautiful children and four grandchildren. Walt lived a full life. He brought joy to the world with his musical talent, above average craftsmanship, and the not so occasional corny joke.
He is survived by his wife, Lynn Coffey, and his two grateful children, Gail Cuz (Juan) and Chris Coffey (Larkin). He also has six siblings, Monroe Coffey, Pricilla Wright (Donald), Eunice Reynolds (John), Mary Jordan (Sam), and John Coffey.
The family will receive friends Thursday afternoon, December 8th beginning at 2 o'clock at Shellhouse - Rivers Funeral Home. A memorial service will follow at 3 o'clock with his brother-in-law, The Rev. Robert L. Boone officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to The Parkinson's Foundation (parkinsons.org) or to the Jack Meeks Wheelchair Ramp Ministry at St. John's United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 809, Aiken, SC 29802.
