James Clohosey Obituary

James Walter "Walt" Clohosey
MIDDLETOWN, Conn. - James Walter "Walt" Clohosey, 91, of Middletown, CT, husband of the late Grace Kelly Clohosey, passed away June 8, 2017.
Walt was born on August 21, 1925 in Rumford, Maine to the late Howard and Ellen Clohosey. After graduating from St. Stephens High School in 1943, Walt joined the service. He served in the Army from 1943 until 1951, honorably serving in World War II and the Korean War. He was a Bronze Star recipient. He traveled the world while in the service and lived in many states throughout the U.S. before moving to Middletown in 1956. He was married to Grace for 57 years until her passing in 2014.
Walt was a draftsman for the City of Middletown until his retirement in 1986. Many of the roads in Middletown were laid out and numbered by Walt throughout his almost 30 years of service with the city.
He was a lifelong member of St. Francis Assisi Church, a church Grace's grandfather co-founded.
Walt will be remembered fondly for his kindness, patience, and wonderful sense of humor, as well as his love and appreciation of his family. He often joked about being surrounded by a household full of women, and lamented that even the cats were female.
He loved Ford vehicles, puttering around in the yard, and the music of Willie Nelson.
His grandchildren and daughters adored him, and everyone who met him was touched by his politeness and gentle spirit.
Surviving are his three daughters and their spouses, Ann and Rick Wagner of Middletown, CT, Ellen and Jeff Priest of Aiken, SC, and Susan and Carl Calhoun of Higganum, CT.
In addition, he leaves behind one sister, Edwina Clohosey of Parrish, FL and six grandchildren, Jonathan Wagner of Middletown, CT, Brian Calhoun and his wife Natassja of Higganum, CT, Jayme Priest Hightower and her husband Justin of Moncks Corner, SC, Kara Calhoun of Higganum, CT, Greg Priest of Aiken, SC, and Kevin Wagner of Middletown, CT. He also leaves two great grandchildren Preston and Tiana Calhoun of Higganum, CT, and a host of nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and three beloved brothers, Ed, Louie, and Jutt.
Friends and family may call on the family at Biega's Funeral Home on Monday evening, June 12 from 5 to 7 p.m. Funeral mass will be Tuesday, June 13, at 9 a.m. with burial following in Calvary Cemetery. The celebrant will be Father Russ Kennedy. Son-in-law Carl Calhoun will sing.
Serving as pallbearers are grandsons, Greg Priest, Jonathan Wagner, Brian Calhoun, Kevin Wagner, and sons-in-law, Jeff Priest and Rick Wagner.
Walt's family would like to thank Middlesex Hospital Hospice and all the other angels who helped us through his illness, in particular his aide Janice Holley, nurse Zack Doubleday, and special friend Kris Lindner. The family will be forever grateful.
A memorial message may be written to the family at www.biegafuneralhome.com. Those who wish may make donations to Veterans Success Center, USC Aiken, 471 University Parkway, Aiken, SC 29801 in honor of Walt's service to his country.

Sue,Ann,Ellen,Kara,Brian & all Walt's Grandkids & Kin,
We are so sorry to hear of Walt's passing. Your tribute to him is beautiful and captured Walt so well. He so loved each of you and was so proud of each of his daughters, their spouses and of course...His beloved Grandkids and Great Grandkids!

I have such fond memories of all our family gatherings through the years. Your parents & mine definitely had a special bond. I vividly remember seeing the 4 of them around your kitchen table on numerous occasions.I feel blessed to have been the recipient of your dad & mom's generosity from berries when I visited to your parents buying fun Christmas presents for our own children.

I was perusing one of my dad's journals thinking I'd find something pertinent and sure enough in the first one I picked up: 12/9/2003 entry, Russell wrote, "Stopped at Walt & Grace's. Walt gave me sealer for bolts." (?!) Probably something to do with their Fords!

I'm sorry we can't make the service but you are in our hearts & prayers. Love, Norene & Jeff, Amy, Gracie, Lee & Keith

Ann, Ellen and Sue,

Sincerest condolences for the loss of your father. He was such a sweet gentleman. It's so difficult to let our parents go. But, it's our time, now, to be the elders. Yesterday, I made strawberry shortcake like I remember having at Aunt Jul's, and thought of her and Uncle Bill, Mame and Charlie, Gracie and Walt and you young girls. I will continue to cherish those memories, as you will. My sincere condolences to all of you for your loss.

Dear Cousins,

I was saddened to learn of Uncle Walt's recent passing. He was such a good man and truly from the greatest generation.

The way he lived his life was admirable.

It was always exciting for us Rumford cousins when your side of our clan visited Grammy & Grampy on Lochness Road.

My Dad shared many Uncle Walt stories with us over the years and I know that there was a very strong love and caring among the 5 siblings.

I don't know if it was a PEI expression, but when Grammy spoke of speaking with Uncle Walt, she referred to his family as "Walt's"....I always liked that way of her expressing the strong family bond that you all had.

Unfortunately, due to some recent health
issues, I will not be able to attend his services this coming week.

Please know that your Dad and Mom and all of you will be in my thoughts prayers.

Kind regards,

Cousin Jim

Mr. Clohosey, thank you for sharing your time and talents with us. You were there with Mrs. Clohosey supporting and guiding us though Girl Scouts meetings and camping trips. Trick or treating on Halloween, openen your home, and oh... the sleep overs. We kept you up late!
Love and hugs
