Warrenville – Mr. James McRoy "Jimmy" Bennett, Jr., 75, of Warrenville, SC, beloved husband of forty-nine years to Glenda Cosnahan Bennett, entered into rest on Thursday, September 30, 2021.
A lifelong area resident, he was the only son of the late James McRoy, Sr. and Sophie Melles Bennett. Following his graduation from Richmond Academy, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and was later sent to Southeast Asia to fight for his country. For his honorable service, Sergeant Bennett was awarded the following: The National Defense Service Medal, Vietnamese Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Combat Action Ribbon, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry, Meritorious Unit Citation, Good Conduct Medal and the Naval Achievement Medal. He was a member of the Marine Corps League in Aiken, SC. He was a very active member of the Midland Valley Community Church of the Nazarene and loved his church family.
Jimmy loved cars of almost any kind and enjoyed working on them. He was a Mechanic at heart. He will be greatly missed. He retired from Owens-Corning Fiberglass, where he was a Maintenance Mechanic. Besides his love for his sons, his love for his grandchildren was just as strong. He also loved traveling, going to Chuckie Cheese, the beach and fixing whatever was broken for his grandchildren, Cameron, Karis, Luke, Gavin and Levi.
In addition to his wife, parents and grandchildren, family members include his sons, Steven Bennett and his wife, Megan, North Augusta, SC and Kevin Bennett and his companion, Crystal Figueroa and her children, Kali and CJ, Martinez, GA; sister-in-law, who he loved as a sister, Vickie Hill, Warrenville, SC and her daughter Brandy Ringer and her Robert and his cousins, friends and church family, who were very special to him.
Friends will be greeted by the family on Sunday, October 3, 2021, beginning at 2 o'clock at Midland Valley Community Church of the Nazarene. A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 3 o'clock at the church. Pastors David Gallimore, Mike McAdory and Penny Duncan will officiate. Honored to serve as Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the Caregivers Sunday School Class and James Cosnahan, Robert Ringer, Tim Wilson, Sr., Al Lucas and James Padgett. Veterans Honors will be accorded by a United States Marine Corps Honor Guard.
