MSGT. Jackie Gene Smith
JACKSON - MSGT. Jackie Gene Smith, 79, United States Air Force Retired, of Jackson, SC, husband of the late Shirley Hamlett Smith, entered into rest in the comfort of his home, in his recliner, just as he wanted, on Tuesday, March 27, 2018.
Born in Paducah, KY and a resident of Aiken County, SC, since 1974, he was a son of the late James Francis and Jessie Culp Smith. A Korean and Vietnam War Veteran, he proudly and with honor, served his county in the United States Air Force, retiring, earning the rank of Master Sergeant. Following his retirement from the Air Force, he went to work with Owens Corning, where he retired as an Electrical Engineer Instructor. He was a proud lifetime member of the NRA and if it was broke, he could fix it.
In addition to his wife and parents, family members include his children, Robert "Redneck" Smith, Jackson, SC, Linda Hill, North Augusta, SC, Michael Lee Smith and his wife, Adriane, Jackson, SC and David Smith, North Augusta, SC; step-daughter, Kathy Stubbs and her husband, Wade, Graniteville, SC; fourteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 4, 2018, beginning at 1 o'clock at Hatcher Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 3464 Jefferson Davis Hwy., Graniteville, SC, followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 2 o'clock in the chapel. Interment with veteran's honors accorded by a United States Air Force Honor Guard, will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Graniteville, SC.
