Jackie Seawell
Aiken - Columbus Jackson "Jackie" Seawell III, 79, loving husband of Claire, passed away on June 14, 2021, surrounded by his beloved family.
A native of Anderson, S.C., Jackie was the son of the late Columbus Jackson, Jr. and Mary Dunlap Seawell. Surviving in addition to his wife of 55 years include four children, Jay (Stephanie) Seawell - Tuscaloosa, AL, Daniel (Casey) Seawell - Aiken, SC, Julie (Brian) Allen - Columbia, SC and David (Ashley) Seawell - Aiken, SC; eleven grandchildren, Brooke (Tyler) Carter, Jackson Seawell, Anna Allen, Wade Allen, Lauren Seawell, Mary Margaret Seawell, Leah Allen, Ellie Seawell, Caroline Seawell, Annette Seawell, and Lee Seawell; two sisters, Mary (Gene) Metz and Margaret (Neil) Barfield.
Jackie graduated from Anderson Boys High School and the University of South Carolina in 1964 with a B.S. in Business Administration.
At Boys High, he served as the Student Body President his Senior year. He was the MVP of the football and golf teams. In addition, he played on the 1959 State High School Football Championship team.
At the University of South Carolina, he was a four-year letterman on the golf team and served as the Captain. He captured the 1964 South Carolina Intercollegiate Individual Title and led his team to the 1964 Atlantic Coast Conference Championship. Jackie was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity.
Jackie served in the U.S. Army in 1965 and was assigned to Fort Jackson, SC. He demonstrated his leadership skills and love for country when he finished first in his class during his basic training.
For the past half century, Jackie has selflessly promoted the game of golf as a highly decorated PGA Professional. His lifetime commitment to the game of golf, his teaching juniors the importance of character, integrity, and respect, and his outstanding leadership as a Golf Professional impacted the lives of many.
He was the Head Golf Professional at Ramsgate C.C. (Mauldin, S.C.), Cobb's Glen (Anderson, S.C.), Woodside Plantation Club (Aiken, S.C.), Director of Golf of Sage Valley Golf Club (Aiken, S.C.) and Owner of Houndslake C.C. (Aiken, S.C.). Some of the many awards that he was recognized for include, South Carolina Golf Hall of Fame, T.L. Hanna High School Athletics Hall of Fame, Thomas Hitchcock & William C. Whitney Palmetto Golf Club Award, Golf Week - "Father" of the Year" Award, the University of South Carolina Department of Athletics Extraordinary Contributions Award, and Honorary Captain of the South Carolina PGA Palmetto Cup Team.
Because of his modest nature, many people including some of his closest friends were unaware that he was a talented musician.
The only awards that Jackie really relished were Husband, Dad, Papa Jack and Pro. He will be remembered for his love for his wife, family, friends, his tireless efforts helping others, lifting spirits, love for the game of golf, and making life more enjoyable to everyone that he was around.
The family will receive friends Friday, June 18, 2021, from noon to 1:30 pm at The McDougald Funeral Home, Anderson, SC. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm in the Chapel with Rev. Stephen Bunn officiating. There will also be a memorial service Saturday, June 19, 2021, at 2:00 pm at St. John's United Methodist Church in Aiken S.C., with the Rev. Dr. W. Timothy McClendon officiating.
