Ira Thomas Obituary

Ira Edward "Ed" Thomas, Jr.
AIKEN - Ira Edward "Ed" Thomas, Jr. of Aiken, South Carolina, passed away peacefully at 3:30 AM on Tuesday, May 9, 2023, at his home.
Born June 19, 1936 in Kansas City, Missouri, Ed was the son of Ira Edward, Sr. and Opal (Workman) Thomas and was the youngest of three children. Ed was a Korean War Veteran and worked in many positions, including Cummins Engineering in Charleston, South Carolina, over-the-road truck driver, and most recently as a security guard at Aiken Regional Medical Center.
On September 8, 1955, Ed married Doris (Reed) Thomas in San Diego, California. For their nearly 68 years of marriage, Ed and Doris traveled throughout the country with their children and called many places home. Ed was an avid Gunsmoke and John Wayne fan, could always be counted on for a great story, and could be found at the Cork and Bull Tavern for an afternoon visit with friends.
Ed will be remembered for his devotion and love for his wife, children and their families, and for always being an honorable and proud man.
Ed is survived by his wife, Doris, and four sons Ira Edward, III (Marian) of Aiken, SC, Stephen (Julie) of Westlake, OH, Paul (Lisa) of Summerville, SC, and James of Onsted, MI; 12 Grandchildren, Andrew, Courtney, Mary Therese, Michael, Lauren, Jennifer, Chase, Heather, Regina, Tanya, Kristina, and Victoria; 28 great-grand children and two-great grandchildren.
