I once read.... Some people come into your life, leave footprints on your heart and you are never the same. Mrs Bodie had this influence on me.

I am thankful that Mr. and Mrs. Bodie and their family were neighbors and friends of our family for so many years. I remember when her first book was published, "The Secret of Telfair Inn", using the Wilcox Hotel which at that time was boarded up and empty-beautiful but mysterious, as her inspiration. My Mother, Frances, got Mrs. Bodie to autograph two books, one for me and one for my sister. That was so sweet and so "cool", we young kids thought. She was always a model of grace and beauty. She was an excellent educator. She was a gifted person, well-rounded and loved her husband and her family so very much. Edwin was in my class at school. The girls, Susanne and Beth, were also always a model of beauty and quiet grace, like their Mother! Their house was so pretty and Southern and they kept it up so beautifully. They were wonderful neighbors and we knew everyone in that area-I mean everyone. That was when it was safe to run around the neighborhood, go out on our own when we got old enough on Halloween, the same neighborhood that so many old and"still friends" and acquaintances were so fortunate to have grown up in! So, I will remember them all but I surely wanted to let those left know that I will always remember your Mom and your handsome, devoted Dad, Jim. Our bus stop was just across the street from their house. What a group of young hooligans we were-but privileged to grow up with Hitchcock woods as our "own backyard" and mischievous, like kid's are sort of supposed to be, while we are growing and learning. The Mom's and Dad's helped each other make sure of that. The "neighborhood" loved us. Thank you, Mrs.Bodie, for all the positive influence you had on so many students--and neighbors. Affectionately, Terri Spencer-Williams

I have lost a dear friend and neighbor for over 40 years. My fond memories will last forever. She was a great educator, wife, mother and homemaker. On the hottest days, she wore a strawhat still pulled weeds. Jim would say" we're getting another grandbaby". We will always love and miss her! Sarah and Artie

Mrs. Bodie was my seventh and eighth grade English teacher at Kennedy Jr. High. She was such a positive influence on me. I was born with a love of reading but I have loved her books and kept them for my children and grandchildren. I was also fortunate to have been a classmate of her daughter Susanne. My prayers are with her family at this time. She was a beautiful lady, inside and out. Heaven has a new angel.

To her Family,
Mrs. Bodie was my 8th grade English teacher at Kennedy Jr. High School. She had a tremendous impact on my life. With her love of vocabulary and reading, both have sustained me all of my 65 years now. I'll never forget her one-word vocabulary tests every week, which was brilliant on her part, and because of that, it enabled me to speak with pride in knowing words that others did not fathom. She will be missed by many of her students, along with her wonderful family. My prayers and deepest thoughts to her family. Another Angel in Heaven. Psalm 27

I was a student of Mrs. Bodie in 1964 at Kennedy Junior High School. Back in those days, teachers did not have first names as far as we students were concerned, and usually presented primarily as authority figures. Mrs. Bodie was different. She was our English teacher and favorite aunt at the same time. When you're thirteen, whether you are a boy or girl, there's a lot of confusion and negativity swirling around. During the hour we spent in her class, that was somehow forgotten, replaced by interesting things, remembered fondly.

I thorough enjoyed all of her books! She will be missed! Prayers for her family. Eugenia C. Gregory, Ridge Spring Library volunteer.
