Herman Zapanta Obituary

Herman Velasquez Zapanta, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend to many, passed away peacefully on August 8, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was 73 years old. Born on December 4, 1951, in Manila, Philippines, Herman was the eldest child and only son of Santiago L. Zapanta and Leonor V. Zapanta. He was a proud graduate of the Lourdes School of Quezon City and of the Mapúa Institute of Technology, where he earned his degree in Civil Engineering. Herman dedicated his professional life to the National Power Corporation of the Philippines, where he worked as a respected Civil DesignEngineer until his retirement. In 2006, he and his family relocated to South Carolina, where they built a new life and created lasting memories. Herman was preceded in death by his parents, Santiago L. Zapanta and Leonor V. Zapanta, and his sister, Rebecca Z. Borja. He leaves behind a legacy of love and family. He is survived by his devoted wife of 42 years, Agnes Santiago Zapanta, and their children: Nancy Z. Peel (Rusty Peel), Margreth Z. Ergle (Steven Ergle), Kristine Z. Peace (Donovan Peace), Raisa Z. Morgan (Tyler Morgan), Samuel S. Zapanta, and Herman S. Zapanta Jr. Herman was a proud and nurturing grandfather to six cherished grandchildren: Jacob D. Peel, Axl K. Ergle, Wyatt Z. Morgan, Noah Z. Morgan, Avery E. Ergle, and Hudson S. Peace. His love and guidance will forever be a part of their lives. He is also survived by his loving sisters and their spouses: Pearlie Z. Sabino (Ezer Sabino), Ruby Z. Tordesillas (Roberto Tordesillas), and Agnes Z. Bengco (Angelo Bengco). Herman will be remembered for his quiet strength, his unwavering dedication to his family, and his kind heart. His memory will be forever cherished by all who knew and loved him. A Vigil service will be held Monday, August 11, 2025 at 6 p.m. with visitation following until 8 p.m. at Hatcher Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 3464 Jefferson Davis Highway, Graniteville, South Carolina 29829.
