Helen Willingham Obituary

Helen Kirk Willingham
AIKEN - Funeral Services for Mrs. Helen Kirk Willingham, 94, who entered into rest April 2, 2021 will be conducted Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock from Millbrook Baptist Church, Rev. Bill Howard, III officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Those in attendance are encouraged to wear a mask and social distancing will be practiced. The service will be streamed live on the Posey Funeral Directors Facebook page. Interment will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens.
She is survived by her loving only child, Daughter Ms. Melody DeDe Kirk of North Augusta, SC.
Mrs. Willingham was born in Greer, SC and lived in Arlington, VA for 38 years and has been a resident of Aiken for over 40 years. Helen was married to the love of her life, the late Ernie J. Kirk for 48 years. At 78 years old she married the now late Fred Willingham, who had three grown children out of state. She was preceded in death by her sister, Pauline Livingston, Arlington, VA. She worked several years at the Pentagon and Washington Hotel before becoming a daily caregiver and Godmother to her three goddaughters. Helen then became a mom and homemaker to her family.
Mrs. Willingham was saved and became a Deaconess in Virginia in 1976. She moved to Aiken in 1979 and became a member of Couchton Baptist Church where she loved her choir and Sunday School Class. She later became a member of Town Creek Baptist Church and had a long tape and visitation ministry.
Helen became a member of Millbrook Baptist Church in 2001 and was a loyal member of her beloved Joy Class (Essie, Anabel). She was a long-time resident of Cumberland Village. Many knew her by the cross necklaces she wore, a testimony that she proudly displayed and was evident in the Christian life she led. Mrs. Willingham spent the last two years at Benton House of Aiken where she was active and happy.
A special thanks to the Joy & Sonshine Sunday School Class and Whitler's Group of Millbrook, The Dyches family and The McLauglin's who were always there for her. Helen was blessed to have had a full and well lived life with a faithful family and most importantly a loving God that gave abundantly to her.
Memorials may be made the Whitler's Group of Millbrook and the Mission Programs, 223 S. Aiken Lane, Aiken, SC 29803.
