Helen Buchanan Turney Sept. 13, 1937 ~ Mar. 5, 2014 Resident of Martinez Helen Buchanan Turney, age 76, passed away on Wednesday March 5, 2014 in her home with family by her side. She is preceded in death by her beloved cherished companion Laurence V. Snow of 43 years. Helen Buchanan Turney was born September 13, 1937 in the farming area of Cloud Chief (near Weatherford), Oklahoma. She attended school at Alfalfa, Carnegie and graduated from Fort Cobb High School in 1956. She attended classes at the Hill's Business College in Oklahoma City and is a 1981 graduate of Western CUNA Management School at the Pomona University in Claremont, California. Helen was the 7th of 9 children, born to James Andrew and Ollie Dicey Buchanan. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers: Bailey, Sam and Everett and three sisters: Catherine Marie Smith, Ella Mae Clark, and Rozetta (Rose) Rhoads. She was the loving mother of Diana R. Michaels and son-in-law Shawn P. (Mike) Michaels and grandsons Steven R. and great granddaughter Elenia; Brandon P. Michaels and wife Kathi and twin great grandbabies, Charlotte and Kason; Eric R. Michaels; her son Larry R. Turney and duaghter-in-law Yvonne R. Turney and grandsons Cameron R. and Kyle L. Turney. She is survived by two sisters: Peggy L. Christian and husband Raymon (Sonny) Christian; Mary Lou Dodson and husband Ronald Dodson of Mt. View OK; and her sister-in-law Shirley Buchanan of Chickasha OK. She was loved by all her families, her nieces, nephews, cousins. She felt blessed to be able to travel back home (Oklahoma) every year since 1965 until her failing health in 2011. A loving celebration of her amazing life will take place Sunday, March 9, 2014 at 11am at Connolly & Taylor Chapel - (925) 228-4700, 4000 Alhambra Avenue, Martinez, CA 94553.
