GREENWOOD, SC - Helen Hilton Marshall, 90, widow of George L. Marshall Jr. "Pete" died Wednesday, November 26, 2014 at Hospice House.
Born in Abbeville, SC, she was a daughter of the late Minnie Fuller Hilton and Walter Reuben Hilton. She graduated from Due West High School and Geyer Business College in Charlotte, NC. Helen retired from the Dantzler Agency in 1986 after 37 years of service and was a CPCU (Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter).
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church where she was a member of the Henry Reynolds / Sojourners Sunday School class, a former Sunday school teacher, former officer of Presbyterian Women and a former deacon. Helen was also a former member of Athenaeum Study Club and several Bridge clubs.
She was married twice, first to the late Jack Hampton Uprichard and was preceded in death by three sisters; Mary Elizabeth Stockman, Lillie H. Wilson and Louise H. Mashburn.
Helen was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
She is survived by her daughter Carol Uprichard Garrett (Ron) of Aiken, SC; two granddaughters, Leigh Garrett Norton (Michael) of Aiken, SC and Mary Catharine Garrett Franks (Bert) of Lake Wylie, SC; three great granddaughters, Lauren Norton, Allie Norton, and Maddie Franks; a nephew Pierce Stockman and a niece Elizabeth Stockman Cureton and their families of Greenwood.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday at First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dr. Kyle Hite officiating. Burial will be private in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends following the service at the church.
The family would like to thank Lue Ella Mack and Richard Johnson for their care and concern to Mrs. Helen.
