Grady Stokes Obituary

Grady H. Stokes
AIKEN, SC - Mr. Grady Hugh Stokes, 78, of Wise Creek Lane, died Sunday morning. June 14, 2015, in the Aiken Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Stokes was born in Jasper, GA, to Hillya Stokes and Alma Lambert Stokes. He graduated from the University of Maryland with a degree in Business Administration. He served 13 years in the U.S. Air Force and completed graduate studies from the University of Alabama in 1971. Mr. Stokes went on to compile a very distinguished career in hospital Administration. After serving with the U.S. Department of Justice and the Bureau of Prisons, he was administrator of the U.S. Penitentiary Hospital in Atlanta, at the Gordon Hospital in Calhoun, and later at the Haywood County Hospital. And in 1988, became the Executive Director for the Catawba Medical Foundation in Hickory, and a vice president for the Catawba Memorial Hospital. And during 1988, served as Chairman of the Board for the North Carolina Hospital Association. Mr. Stokes enjoyed traveling, hiking, reading, music, and visiting his grandchildren. He was the widower of his most wonderful wife and help mate, Jean Bacon Stokes.
Memorial services are planned for Friday, June 19, 2015, at 11:00 at the Cornerstone Baptist Church in Aiken, SC. Inurnment will follow later that day at the Hillcrest Abbey East Cemetery in Savannah, GA.
Mr. Stokes is survived by his son, David Stokes
(Kimberly), of Resaca, GA; 2 step-sons, Patrick Connelly, of Erlanger, KY, and Brant Long (Linda), of Evans, GA; one brother, Landon Stokes, St. Petersburg, FL; nine grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Handicap Entrance Fund at Cornerstone Baptist Church, 100 Cornerstone Dr., Aiken, SC 29801.
