George Albert Huff
BOISE, IDAHO - 1924 ~ 2017
George Albert Huff, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on November 27, 2017 in Boise, Idaho.
George was born on December 10, 1924 in Sanford, Florida to George Washington Huff and Emma Estelle Whittle. He grew up in Florida, living in Sanford and Jacksonville. He had a happy childhood, loving parents and brother and sister.
George graduated from high school in 1942 and enrolled in the University of Florida. He was unable to complete his first year because in 1943 he was drafted into the U.S. Army to serve in the medical corps during World War II. He served in the European Theater Operations and was in the midst of such action as the "Battle of the Bulge." In 1945 he was stationed at Camp Wings near Le Havre, France. While there he met a Red Cross girl, Gretta Jeanne Brossard, his future wife and love of his life.
After they were released from service, George and Gretta were married in Washington D.C. on February 23, 1946. Their marriage was later solemnized in the LDS Temple in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Some of their fondest memories were the 18 years they spent in Blackfoot, Idaho while raising their three children.
George graduated in 1950 from Brigham Young University. After graduation, he started his career as a chemist in Idaho in the field of nuclear fuels separation technology at the Atomic Energy Commission (later known as the Idaho National Engineering Laboratory). George remained with the AEC 18 years in Idaho and then accepted a position with Allied Chemical working in New Jersey and South Carolina. In 1984 he took a position with the Ralph M. Parson Company in Pasadena, California. During his career he served on national and international committees for nuclear energy. In 1985 George retired and moved to Boise, Idaho.
George was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served as a Branch President, Stake President, Stake Patriarch and temple worker. George was an enthusiastic golfer, enjoyed yard work and serving with the Boy Scouts. His family was precious to him.
He is survived by his three children, Jeanne Robison (Greg) of Manteca, California, Carolyn Snyder (Jack) of Boise, Idaho and George Huff, Jr. (Shelley) of Naperville, Illinois; ten grandchildren, Rachel Robison Lee, John Robison, Amanda Robison Rush, Mary Robison, James Robison, Gretchen Snyder Fors, Anna Snyder Bartoo, Jennifer Huff Gannon, Katie Huff Clerkin and Kim Huff and twenty-two great-grandchildren. His wife Gretta, his parents and his brother and sister preceded him in death.
Those of us who were privileged to be in his family and his friends will miss George greatly. We loved him and cherish the legacy of love, honor, courage and faith he has given us.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, 2017 at the Park Center Ward LDS Chapel, 2300 Bergeson St. Boise, Idaho. The family will visit with friends from 10 until 10:45 a.m. at the church on Saturday prior to the service. Interment will follow the services at Pioneer Cemetery in Boise, Idaho. Services are under the direction of Relyea Funeral Chapel in Boise, Idaho.
