Gene Elemuel Morgan, Jr.
AIKEN, SC - Gene Elemuel Morgan, Jr., also known as Sonny, was born to Gene Elemuel and Lucille Morgan, Sr. on June 27, 1947 in Chattanooga, TN, weighing 7 lbs 5 ozs. Gene was the oldest of three children, which included his sisters Suzanne Brandon of Manchester and Mary Jo O'Neal of Murfreesboro, TN. He lived with his family in Chattanooga until he was 8 years old and they later relocated to Manchester, TN.
Sonny graduated from Manchester Central High School in 1966 and he was employed as an iron worker until April 1967. He later joined the US Navy, serving until February 1971. Sonny returned to Manchester and attended school at Tennessee Vocational College until 1973. He obtained a job working for a contractor and attended school at night at Motlow State Community College.
Upon graduation, he was hired by Arnold Engineering and worked there until 1978. He then became employed by Morrison Knudson in 1978 until 1984 and by Dupont in Aiken, South Carolina until 1988. In 1988, he formed partnerships with Dale Overcash and Tony Corley and established OMC Fabricators.
In 1971, he met and married Linda Rickles of Manchester, TN. During their 12 years of marriage they were blessed with two beautiful daughters, Gina Louise in 1975 and Melissa Jean in 1977.
In December 1983, he met Virginia who had two children, Angelia Renea and Aaron Richard and they formed a family of six.
Gene leaves to cherish his memory: two daughters, Melissa (Jason) Deuermeyer and Gina (Jeremey) Meline; one stepson, Aaron (Jennifer) Morgan; one step daughter, Angelia (Mike) Beattie; five grandchildren: Leah Deuermeyer, Ethan Andrews, Elizebeth Meline, Thomas Morgan and Lyndsey Beattie. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at 10:00 AM at South Aiken Church of God, 2700 Whiskey Rd., with Rev. Don Seeders officiating.
The family will receive friends at 9:30 until the hour of service. Friends may call his step daughter Angelia at (803) 645-0734. Sunset View Mortuary, 612 W Columbia Ave., Batesburg, SC 29006 - (803) 221-2859.
