AUGUSTA GA - Mr. Gary Michael Hurst, of Augusta, Georgia, was called home to the arms of his loving Savior in the evening hours of Sunday, February 12th, 2023. He was 76. Gary was born on April 21st, 1946, to the late Harbin Layton Hurst, Sr. and Bettye Rose Snyder in Berkeley, California. He was preceded in death by his brother, Jon Rodney Hurst. Loving survivors include his wife, Dorothy Stalling Hurst; his daughters, Candice Michelle Hurst, and Jennifer Anne Robertson (Christopher); grandchildren, Kayla Sharon Cavazo, Bailey Michael Hurst, Paul Owen Kitchens, Azucena Kelli Robertson, with one more grandbaby to arrive this summer. In addition, he is survived by his siblings, Harbin Layton Hurst, Jr., Kathryn McCurry Hudson, Victoria Elaine Hydrick and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. A lover of the South, Gary most enjoyed spending time in Aiken with his daughter, Jennifer Anne, or somewhere along the coast with family and great friends. You could always catch him watching football, boxing, or golf while at home. He was the ultimate provider, a fierce supporter with an endless wit. And with his impeccable style, was unmatched on the dance floor. He will best be remembered as a loving father and his grandchildren's Grampy. The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Ankur Goel, Dr. Timothy Hunter, Dr. John K. Hudson, Dr. J. Benjamin Kay, the staff of South East Hospice and the many physicians, nurses and care teams who touched Gary's life over these past three years. We are forever grateful. With wishes of no funeral, the family will privately gather in remembrance at a later date.
