Gary Hayes, Jr.
NEW ELLENTON - Mr. Gary Hayes, Jr., 92, passed away Wednesday, September 28, 2022.
Mr. Hayes was born in Fairfax, SC, son of the late William Gary Hayes, Sr. and Cammie Lucille Meeks. He graduated from Ellenton High School as class Valedictorian, and attended Clemson A&M. After graduation, he served in the US Army during the Korean War, and was honorably discharged with the rank of 1st Lieutenant.
Gary retired from E.I. Dupont in 1989 as the Savannah River Plant superintendent of Health Physics after 35 years of service. In retirement he enjoyed oil painting, genealogy, stamp collecting, embracing computers and new technology.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 68 years, Henrietta Herrington Hayes; daughters, Joyce (Wayne) Fields, Camden, SC, Janice(Gary) Weekley, Cedar Bluff, AL; a son, Richard (Carol) Hayes, New Ellenton, SC; grandchildren, Jason Fields, Casey (Christina) Fields, Brandi (Jonathan) Clifton, Timothy (Cami) Weekley, Taylor Weekley, Chad (Chasity) Hayes, Jennifer (Jeff) Nabors, Matthew (Holly) Hayes, and Rachel Hayes; 15 great grandchildren; and a special cousin, Carroll (Mark) Levey, NH.
A private graveside service will be held in Southlawn Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to CanHope (www.canhope.org).
