Fred Terry Smith, Sr.
GLOVERVILLE, - Mr. Fred Terry Smith, Sr., 74, of Gloverville, SC, passed peacefully on Thursday, April 14, 2022.
Born in Greenville, SC, to the late James, R.T., Sr. and Clara Eunice James Smith, the family relocated to the Horse Creek Valley area, when Terry was a young child. A Vietnam Veteran, he proudly and with honor served his country in the United States Marine Corps, from May of 1968 until he was honorably discharged as a Corporal in March of 1974. He was married to the late Joyce Hurley Smith for twenty-six years and together they had five children.
He studied Electrical/Mechanical Engineering at Aiken Technical College and began his twenty-eight-year career as a Mechanic at Kimberly-Clark, Beech Island, SC, retiring in 2010.
Surviving are his only brother, James Roy (Laura) Smith, Jr., Warrenville, SC; children, Tina (Stacy) Jackson, Murfreesboro, TN, Terry (Brenda) Smith, Jr., Warrenville, SC, Leslie (Jon) Washburn, Rockvale, TN, Heather Johnson, Murfreesboro, TN and Christopher Smith, Sr., Hayesville, NC; grandchildren who loving knew him as "Poppy", Tyler (Paige) Jackson, Bell Buckle, TN, Brittany Stranes, Aiken, SC, Nancy Luther, Andrews, NC, Elijah Johnson, Malina Johnson, Isaac Jackson, Dominick Washburn and Emma Washburn. "Poppy" was also the proud great-grandfather of Carolina Gresham and Zachariah Starnes, of Aiken, SC and Liam Jackson.
Additionally, he is survived by nieces and their families, Lisa (Alex, Cullen and Cade) Bishop, Aiken, SC and Penny (Chris, Orion and Riley) Wisham, Warrenville, SC
