Frances Holloway Obituary

Frances Holloway
AIKEN - Frances Holloway, 85, of 202 Arbor Terrace, Aiken, South Carolina, peacefully transitioned to be with God on Wednesday, January 4, 2023. She was the only child born to the late Mary Rowe and John McKinney, in Ridge Spring, SC, on April 26, 1937.
Growing up during the oppression of segregation, she recognized the importance of education and working hard. She graduated from Ridge Hill High School, where she played basketball and was a member of the 4-H club. Frances was baptized at Jerusalem Baptist Church in Ridge Spring, SC where she sang in the senior choir and served as an active lifelong member. She retired from Owens Corning Fiberglas with 30 years of service. She never stopped learning and following her retirement, she studied and became a Certified Nursing Assistant.
Both family and friends affectionately referred to her as Granny Frances. She was the cornerstone of her family and a strong, resourceful, independent businesswoman known for closing real estate deals, collecting antiques, and driving her pickup trucks. She could frequently be seen chauffeuring relatives and friends to appointments or errands. She enjoyed tending her rose bushes, traveling to visit family, spending time at the beach, and actively participating in the lives of her grands and great grands - from supporting them at educational events, sports activities, professional endeavors, and importantly, taking them to church.
She is preceded in death by her husband David, her daughter Celie Lydia Band Dunbar, her son David Holloway Jr., and her grand-daughter Vashon Perry.
She is survived by her loving oldest daughter Mary Frances (Owen) Mason and youngest son Vernon Holloway; daughter-in-law Linollia Holloway (wife of the late David Jr.); grandchildren Octavia (Phillip) Palmer, Caroline Mason, Gerald (Patrice) Mason, Megan (Brandan) Wilson, Martin (Holly) Mason, Maya (Jared) Phillips, Madreka Powell, LaToya Baskett, Gelester Baskett, Tarevea Baskett, Jermaine Holloway, Ashley (Tisha) Holloway, Gabrielle Holloway, and Aja Dunbar; 28 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren and loving cousins and relatives.
A public viewing will be held Sunday, January 8, 2023, from 10:15 AM - 11:15 AM at Jerusalem Baptist Church, 4185 Columbia Hwy North, Ridge Spring, SC, 29129. Private burial immediately following.
The family gratefully receives all prayers and condolences. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to be made in honor of Granny Frances to the Center for African American History, Art, and Culture, 120 York St., Aiken, SC 29801, caahac.org.
