Frances Coons Obituary
AIKEN - FRANCES WOODWARD COONS, 84, widow of Johnie G. Coons, suddenly passed away Friday afternoon, July 7, 2023 while working in her garden.
Born in Augusta, GA, Frances was a daughter of the late Hasting and Almena Preacher Woodward, Sr. Her family moved to Aiken when she was 5 years old, where she remained for the rest of her life. She retired in 1994 from the Aiken office of the SC Employment Security Commission. She was an active member of Shiloh Baptist Church.
Survivors include her daughter, Christy C. Posey (Cecil), her son, John H. Coons, all of Aiken; four grandchildren, Laura Coons Burgess, Kelly Coons, Kayla Coons (Nick Baughman), Jeffrey Posey (Amber); seven great-grandchildren, Braiden Perry, Kodi Burgess, Tucker Burgess, Wyatt Posey, Laney Kate Baughman, Bentley Baughman, Brookelynn Baughman. In addition to her husband and parents, Frances was preceded in death by her brother, Harry "Bitsy" Woodward, Jr.
The family will receive friends Saturday afternoon, July 15th beginning at 3 o'clock at Shellhouse-Rivers Funeral Home. A memorial service will follow at 4 o'clock with The Rev. Dr. Chris Masters officiating.
Private interment will be in the Scott Family Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Shiloh Baptist Church (https://www.shilohbaptistaiken.com/giving).

Frances will always be remembered for her love of animals and gardening. She was an active bridge player and we will miss her. Love and sympathy, Sandra Anthony.

I will miss Frances at so many bridge games. She made every group more fun! She was also the organizer who made sure we had the right number of players at the right place and time. What will we do without her? She taught me that even with very different opinions, we can laugh about them and still be good friends.
I am proud to claim her as my cousin from way, way back.

I will miss this sweet friend forever but she will always be in my I met her playing duplicate bridge years ago. I will always laugh & remember she taught me to "Speak to the box" . It is a bridge thing. She left this earth too soon for me, but she will be smiling down making me laugh.
