Eugene Fleischer Obituary

Eugene Fleischer
AUGUSTA, GA - EUGENE FLEISCHER passed away peacefully on August 17, 2018 of natural causes. He was a major supporter of the arts, accomplished builder and philanthropist. He was born in New York City on September 11, 1921, one month after his parents Julius and Gisella emigrated from Budapest, Hungary. Eugene learned the jewelry and watch repair trade from his father. As a teenager, he was chosen to play violin in the New York Youth Symphony. He married Lucille Finkle in 1942 right after receiving the draft notice. They were together during his stateside military assignments. He also served in Okinawa during 1945.
After returning from the war, he and Lucille with their young daughter, Phyllis, moved to Miami to enroll in graduate studies at the University of Miami. During this time, he became a general contractor. Lucille and Gene were instrumental in founding Temple Beth Am in South Miami, Florida in the late 1950s.
In 1974 Augusta became his semi-retirement home where he continued to build, performed with the Augusta Symphony and was active with the Augusta Opera. He developed Hunters Glen and the Ramblewood Horse Show grounds in Aiken.
He is survived by his daughter, Phyllis (Paul) Rosen of Wellington, FL and his son, Arthur (Lynn) Fleischer of Nashville, TN; his grandchildren, Braden (Jennifer), Jared, Amy and his great-grandson, Jakob Fleischer.
The family expresses appreciation for his devoted caregivers, Cheryl Davis and Family, Henry Taylor, and Amy Stewart.
A memorial service is planned Saturday, August 25th at 6 PM at Congregation Children of Israel, 3005 Walton Way, Augusta, GA. Memorial tributes may be made to the Augusta Symphony or the Morris Museum of Art.

My Thoughts & Prayers for the Fleischer family. Met Eugene & Lucille when they first moved to Augusta from Miami and purchased a home off Alexander Dr. They were my customers for over 1o yrs. at Ga.RRBank in National Hills. I know that you are very proud of all that they accomplished in their lives and Augusta was very fortunate for their many contributions over the years that they lived in our community..
