Ene Simon Obituary

Ene Simon
AIKEN - Ene Simon was born in Tallinn, Estonia in 1940. She lived in a displaced persons camp in Germany from ages 3 thru 9. She came to America in 1949 and moved to Frankenmuth, MI. with her parents and sister, attending St. Lorenz Lutheran School where she learned to love the Lord. She was confirmed at Holy Cross Lutheran as an adult in 1963, that same year she met the love of her life, Jack Simon, at a Lutheran Young Adults Retreat, and after 2 months of dating they got engaged. Six months later Ene and Jack were married in Holy Cross Lutheran Church and they were married for 53 years.
Ene and Jack agreed that they would like children and were blessed with 3 beautiful daughters, Cindy in 1966, Susan in 1968 and Sally in 1970. The children went to Holy Cross Lutheran School and then to Lutheran schools in Tonawanda, N.Y. and Flint, MI. as Jack's job caused them to move several times. Ene was coach, cook, bus driver, cheer leader and counselor to our children. She was an extremely great cook specializing in Estonian and German dishes. She was a wonderful mother and our children today want to be like their Mom.
Ene was not blessed with good health in her later years but she fought the good fight and "never gave up." She has been an inspiration to all who knew her.
Ene and Jack loved to travel and visited much of Europe and Asia. They also were privileged to live 3 blocks from Buckingham Palace when Jack was assigned to the European Office of Naval Research. Both Ene and Jack loved London.
Ene worked for Barbara Bush in the White House while Jack worked for President Ronald Reagan and George H. Bush. Summers for most of her life were spent at her beloved Higgins Lake. She was First Lady of ASM International in 1994. Her greatest joy was her faith in Jesus Christ and seeing her children and 6 grandchildren grow up to be beautiful Christians.
Ene is survived by daughters Cindy Rumbaugh of Geneva, IL., Susan Halferty of Sunriver, OR., and Sally Skinner of Crown Point, IN., Son-in-laws Max Rumbaugh, Matt Halferty and Troy Skinner, and grandchildren Alexandra Rumbaugh at Ohio State, Chase Campbell at Indiana University, Stone Campbell at Crown Point High School and Grace, Jack and Emma Halferty at Bend (OR) Senior High School. She also is survived by a Sister, Mary Schulz of Midland, MI and her husband, Fritz, and a Sister-in-law, Arlene Puffpaff of Saginaw, MI. as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, August 30th at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Aiken, S.C., under the care of GEORGE FUNERAL HOME. The family will meet guests in the Fellowship Hall of the church beginning at 10am. Sermon will be from 11:00-11:30 am with a luncheon to follow.
A similar Memorial Service will be held in Saginaw, MI. as Ene had many relatives and friends there. Dates and times will be in the Saginaw News.

I am so saddened by the passing of Ene..We go back a long time and have had so many good times together. I especially remember Ene helping me to have a surprise birthday party for Denny after I had a bout of health problems. The memories together are priceless. I wish for you, Jack and kids, the comfort of those memories and having Jesus with his arms around you.
