Ellen Johnson Obituary
COWPENS - Mary Ellen Williams Johnson, aged 72, of Cowpens, SC, passed away on November 5, 2025. Born on September 16, 1953, Ellen was a person who cherished the beauty of the natural world, particularly the serene mountains in Cherokee. Her love for gardening was only paralleled by her devotion to her family and her cats, which brought immense joy and fulfillment to her life.
Ellen leaves behind a loving family who adored her deeply. She is survived by her husband, Gale A. Johnson; her brother, H.A. Chip Williams; her sons, Steve Boatright, Anthony Boatright, Chris Byrd and Greg Byrd; and her daughter, Angela Penuel. Ellen was also a proud grandmother and great-grandmother to Traci, Jacob, Damien, Tristen, Wyatt, Arianna, Jocelyn, Taylor, Amber, Cora Mae, Clarissa, Pasley, Oliver, and Aria Marie. Her passing was preceded by her parents, Herbert Arthur Williams Sr. and Mary Ellen Williams, and her sister-in-law, Brenda Lynn Williams.
A service to honor Ellen's life will be held at Town Creek Baptist Church. Ellen's love for the outdoors and her commitment to her family will be remembered by all who knew her. She will be deeply missed.
