Elizabeth Christensen Obituary

Elizabeth "Betty" Christensen
AIKEN - Elizabeth Luella Schurmeier Christensen, Betty's precious Lord and Savior welcomed her home Friday evening surely with an exclamation of "Well done, good and faithful servant!" Betty was the daughter of the late Gustave Benjamin Schurmeier and the late Elizabeth McIntosh Schurmeier. She was born March 1, 1928 in St. Paul, Minnesota and graduated from Wells College in Aurora, NY. She was preceded in her journey to heavenly eternity by her loving husband of 60 years, Frederik Burr Christensen.
Betty often said that she was blessed with 5 children, Frederik Holmes Christensen (Catherine), Benjamin Burr Christensen (Lois), David Collins Christensen (Cathy), Elizabeth Ann Alleman (Kevin), and Margaret Helen Ray (Jeff). Her children would all argue that in fact, they were the ones blessed, to have a mother fully dedicated to providing a loving and safe home filled with support, encouragement, involvement and wisdom.
Betty, came to be lovingly known as "Crammy" to bevy of grandchildren and in turn great grandchildren. Paul, Greg (Jessica), Tim (Olivia), Michelle (Trenton), Mark (Rosie), Kimberly (Steve), Kasci (Thomas), Collin (Lauren), Abigail, David, and Heidi are grandchildren who's lives were deeply enriched through the love of Betty. Her great grandchildren are Gavin, Tucker, Kaeleigh, Palmer, Ava, Skyelar, Sophia, Jonah, Rose, Louis, Henry, Cecile, Walter, Esther, Addison and Charlie.
Betty was a member and participated in the Founding of All Saints Anglican Church where she served as a Sunday school teacher. Additionally, she helped develop the vision whereby collectively small and large churches could combine their Spirit fueled energies and resources to dramatically impact the Aiken community. She tirelessly worked with others to share this vision with so many churches to launch what we all know as ACTS and until her passing considered herself a volunteer.
Governor Campbell appointed Betty to serve on the South Carolina State Board of Medical Examiners which she loyally served on with dedication for 11 years. She also served on the Physician Assistant Committee and Investigative Review Committee for 8 Years.
She was also quite proud of her service to the youth in the Aiken community by serving as a leader in both Boy Scouts and in the Girl Scouts. Especially as she would cross paths with her former "scouts" in their later years and see the successes they achieved. Many through the foundational principles taught through their scouting experiences.
Financial accomplishments or possession acquisitions are not noted as they were never important to Betty. What was important was the lives she touched, the positive impacts of others made, the family values instilled and demonstrated and the Gospel she loved and shared.
"Go rest high on that mountain. Your work on earth is done"
