Edna Herring Obituary

Edna Pound Hearing
COLUMBIA - Edna Pound Herring, 95, of Columbia, died peacefully in her home on Sunday, May 28, 2017, where she was cared for by her daughters. Born in Augusta, Georgia, she was a daughter of the late Ola McAuliffe Pound and John Corley Pound. Edna was married to the late James Hilary Herring for 71 years and lived most of her married life in North Augusta, South Carolina, until they moved to Columbia in 1993. A member of North Trenholm Baptist Church, Edna was also a former member of North Augusta First Baptist Church, where she taught children in Sunday School for many years and directed a children's choir. Before working with her husband at Herring Brothers Furniture Company, she attended business college and worked for Boardman Oil Company. Edna's family was the focus of her entire life. She excelled as a homemaker, was an excellent cook and seamstress, and enjoyed raising her four daughters and later spending time with her grandchildren. Throughout her life she was a caretaker for extended family members who were ill and frequently visited friends and church members who were sick or lonely. She was truly a beautiful lady on the inside and the outside and will always be remembered for her strong Christian faith and her devotion to all her family and friends.
Survivors include her four daughters: Judy Timmons (Thad) of Columbia; Joan Herring of East Hanover, New Jersey; Janis Brennan (Gabriel DeBakey) of Washington, DC; Jennifer Herring (the late Robin Durnin) of Kaneohe, Hawaii; four grandchildren: Rebecca Timmons of Columbia, Stuart Timmons (Chermarie), Essex Junction, Vermont; Hilary Brennan (Molly) of Norcross, Georgia; William Durnin of Kaneohe, Hawaii; two great-grandchildren: Allen Timmons and Sean Timmons, Essex Junction, Vermont; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Libby Brink and Jane Grinstead.
A graveside service will be held at 12:00 noon, Monday, June 5, 2017, at Westover Memorial Park, 2601 Wheeler Road, Augusta, GA. The family will receive friends at home and at the cemetery following the graveside service. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to North Trenholm Baptist Church, 6515 N. Trenholm Road, Columbia, SC 29206.
The family would like to thank the staff and residents of The Palmettos Assisted Living, as well as Rosetta Ross, a special friend, for their care and support.
