Earl Bryson Obituary

Earl Bryson
NORTH AUGUSTA, SC - Mr. Earl Bryson 87, of North Augusta, SC passed away peacefully surrounded by family September 8, 2014 after a long period of declining health. Earl was born in Glenville, NC and was the fourth child of Sam and Susie Bryson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth Bryson and Grace Galloway, and his brother, Clyde Bryson.
Earl is survived by his wife of 33 years, Sally Bryson, his sister, Shirley Smith (Harold Dean), former wife Barbara Bryson, three children, Ronnie Bryson, Teresa Moss, and Mike Bryson (Brenda), two stepchildren, Randy Lester (Amylia) and Jamie Lester (Frances), three grandchildren, Randi and Nikki Moss, and Megan Bryson, two step-grandchildren, Mason Mobley and Sarah Lester, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
After graduating from Glenville High School, Earl, like many of his generation, left the farming community of Glenville to find work. He traveled extensively finding temporary employment in a textile plant in Greenville, SC and in a meat packing plant in Detroit, Michigan. He worked for Goodyear Tire in Akron, Ohio, and picked oranges in Florida. He later traveled to California and Oregon where he worked for the state highway department.
He joined the United States Air Force in 1948 and was stationed at Lowry Air Force Base in Colorado. After leaving the Air Force, he continued to work at Lowry Air Force Base as a civilian. In 1952 Earl went to work for DuPont at the Savannah River Plant in South Carolina where he retired after 33 years of service. He returned to DuPont working as a consultant for two additional years.
Earl's hobbies have included gardening, golf, raising goats and square dancing and he was a member of the Richmond Reelers square dancing club. Later in life, as he become less able to get around, he took a strong interest in reading, especially western novels.
Earl genuinely enjoyed meeting people and getting to know everything about them. He made friends easily and maintained those friendships a lifetime. Even though his health gradually declined to the point of being totally dependent on others and was bed-ridden for many years, he managed to maintain a positive attitude and outlook on life. He will be deeply missed.
The family would like to thank the staff of Trinity Hospital of Augusta, Trinity Home Health Services of Aiken, and the many caregivers who attended to Earl over the past several years. A special thanks goes to Patty, Hollie, Rebecca, and Jasmine for their dedication to Earl's care and comfort.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday from 1 until 3.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trinity Hospice of Aiken, 690 Medical Park Drive, Suite 400, Aiken, SC 29801.
