Donald Mitcham Obituary

Donald Wilson Mitcham
Aiken - Donald Wilson Mitcham entered into rest on March 23, 2020. Born June 24,1933 in Opelika, Alabama, Don was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin Edward and Beatrice Wilson Mitcham and his sister June Andros.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Louise McClain Mitcham, two sons, Marvin, and Loy (Katherine), a daughter-in-law, Typhany Nordeen (Kelly), five grandchildren, Skyler (Nicole), Kayleigh, Loy Jr., Devin (Jasmine), Zachary, (Lauren), and four great-grandchildren, Raiden, Charlie, Jaxon, and Ira, two nieces and one nephew.
Don served in the Air Force during the Korean War and earned BS and DBA degrees from Georgia State University and an MBA from Indiana University. He taught at Middle Tennessee State University from 1967-1974 at which time he began his teaching career at the University of South Carolina at Aiken. He retired from teaching in 1999, but continued part time in an administrative capacity until 2011.
In addition to family activities and reunions, and walking on the beach and collecting shells, he enjoyed square dancing and calling, telling stories, and attending square dancing and storytelling festivals.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Trinity United Methodist Church at 2724 Whiskey Rd., Aiken, SC on June 24, 2021 at 1:00 PM followed by a reception in the fellowship hall. (The service will also be livestreamed and can be viewed at https://www.facebook.com/TrinityUMCAiken/ )
