David Owings Obituary

David A. Owings, DMD
NORTH AUGUSTA, SC - Funeral Services for David A. Owings, DMD, 78, who entered into rest March 8, 2016, will be conducted Saturday morning at 11 o'clock from First Baptist Church of North Augusta. Rev. Roy Kiser and Rev. Steve Davis officiating. A private family interment will be held following the service.
Dr. Owings was a native of Greenville, South Carolina, having made North Augusta his home for the past 50 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of North Augusta. Dr. Owings was a graduate of the College of Charleston School of Pharmacy, the Medical College of Georgia (DMD) and practiced dentistry in North Augusta for over 40 years. He was an active supporter of the MCG Dental Program, served on the admissions committee and with the foundation and was recognized as an MCG Dental School Distinguished Alumnus. Dr. Owings was a very determined man who lived life to the fullest. He was a licensed pilot, competitive shooter, avid hunter, car enthusiast and NASCAR fan. He loved North Augusta, supported the community and North Augusta High School sports and was the recipient of the North Augusta Chamber of Commerce Small Business person of the year. Dr. Owings also was active in Missions, having gone on 10 mission trips to Honduras, Mexico and Costa Rica.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Wilma O. Owings; a son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Alan and Laura Owings, North Augusta, SC; two daughters and a son-in-law, Tina Morris, Aiken, SC and Dr. Rebecca and David Sam, North Augusta, SC; a brother, Mitchell Owings (Pat), Greenville, SC; seven grandchildren, Evan Musgrove (Mandy), Erin Minshew (Chris), Bentley Sam, Emily Sam, Kacie Adams (Jonathan), Allison Owings and Matthew Owings; one great-grandchild, Tessa Minshew.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday evening from 5 until 7.

Wilma. Dot and I are sadden at the home going of our friend David but delighted that he is no longer suffering and is now in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ and ill no more.
