Daniel Anderson Obituary

Daniel L. Anderson, Sr.
COLUMBIA, SC - Funeral Services for Mr. Daniel L. Anderson, Sr., 75, who entered into rest August 21, 2014, will be conducted Wednesday morning at 11 o'clock from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Irmo, South Carolina. Bishop Andre' Pinson presiding. Interment in Sunset Hill Cemetery, North Augusta, South Carolina with Veterans Honors.
Mr. Anderson was a native of North Augusta, having made Columbia his home for the past 37 years. He was a US Navy Veteran and a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saint, Irmo Ward.
Mr. Anderson worked in the newspaper business for 26 years. He produced some of the first computer based technology in the newspaper and publishing industry. He worked as a system designer and developer at the Augusta Chronicle-Herald, and in 1966 he designed online typesetting machines, integrated real-time news and advertising applications and built electronic logic controllers to interface the system to I/O devices. From 1970 to 1975, he was employed with the Charlotte Observer as Manager of Management Engineering, later becoming Vice President. He was the designer of advanced integration of newspaper applications, including implications of online wire services coordinated through ANPA research, advanced multi-tasking for real-time data flow and built electronic logic controllers to control all I/O in real time.
He was employed with the Miami Herald where he developed major systems integration such as Autologic APS-5 Typesetting Machines and all other production systems. He designed and built dual large scale logic controllers to give real-time news and ad flow through the integrated system. He was the Vice-President and General Manager of Lakeway Publishers and Production Director of Columbia Newspapers during the 1980's. He was involved in construction design and building of the new newspaper facility in Columbia, SC. He later became Press Room Manager at the Ft. Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel where he was in charge of training and launched the Deerfield Beach plant which was the most modern plant in the world at that time. Mr. Anderson retired from The State Paper in Columbia, SC as the production director. Additionally, Mr. Anderson retired as a Systems Engineer from DEHC. He is preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Dorothy Anderson.
Survivors include his wife, Uta Puppel Anderson; two sons and daughters-in-law, Danny and Judi Anderson, Richmond Hill, GA and Ryan and Carrie Anderson, Lexington, SC; daughter and son-in-law, Alicia and Tom Campbell, Lexington, SC; a brother and sister-in-law, Sammy and Sara Anderson, North Augusta, SC; a sister and brother-in-law, Judy and Eddie Reece, Rockwall, TX; eight grandchildren, Shannon Metts (James), Rachael Anderson, Abby Anderson, Josh Coffey (Courtney), Lauren Greene (Richard), Brett Clarizio, Brianna Anderson and Nicholas Anderson; five great-grandchildren, Holden Metts, Madisyn Metts, Chase Metts, Dawson Coffey and Jase Coffey. In addition, Mr. Anderson had a much loved "acquired daughter" Jennifer Ray (Doug) who has five children, Jaime Anderson (Bryant) Craig, Matthieu, Sydney and Spencer and three grandchildren, Lincoln, Clara and Abigail Anderson.
Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday from 10 until 4. The family will receive at the church Wednesday morning one hour prior to the service.
