Cody Chavous Obituary
The closing chapter of a beautiful life for Cody Everett Chavous came to an earthly end on Friday, July 4th, 2025, at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia. Cody entered this world on November 15, 1991, to the late McKinley Chavous Jr. and Brendia Miller-Chavous at Richland Memorial Hospital in Columbia, South Carolina. Born prematurely, weighing a little over 2 lbs., Cody was always determined to push through any obstacle life threw at him. Cody warmed hearts and made friends wherever his contagious smile went. Cody is a graduate of Ridge Spring Monetta High where he excelled at multiple sports, particularly football where he and his teammates earned the opportunity to play in a state championship game in 2007. After graduation, Cody attended Aiken Technical College in Aiken, SC. In 2012, he relocated to Atlanta, GA, to continue working towards his educational goals, majoring in Electronic Engineering Technology at Atlanta Metropolitan State College. Years later, Cody obtained multiple certifications per OSHA as a forklift operator. He excelled working for various companies throughout the Metro Atlanta area. While cultivating his passion for music as a lyricist and performer, the move to Atlanta also afforded the blessed opportunity for Cody to spend time with his nephew, Yosire, creating an unbreakable bond while sharing their love of music. Cody was always a devoted son, brother, friend, and most notably, a devoted father. God blessed Cody with 33 years full of excitement, love, and watching his family grow. He leaves to cherish his legacy, his amazing three children: Cody Jr., Cartier, and Sevyn, whom he shared with Ragine Yarn; his mother Brendia Miller-Chavous of Ridge Spring, SC; siblings Michael Miller (Ridge Spring, SC), Amanda Chavous (Atlanta), McKinley Chavous III (Warrenville, SC), Kayla Chavous (Graniteville, SC), and Douglas Chavous (Rosalyn) of Barnwell, SC. Cody also leaves behind nine nieces and three nephews who cherished their Uncle Cody, a host of loving aunts, uncles, and cousins. He will be immensely missed by all, especially his children and his siblings, who affectionately called him "Deesh." Cody was preceded in death by his father McKinley Jr., grandparents McKinley Sr. & Mattie Chavous, Lillie Bell & Theotis Miller, a sister Brandilyn Chavous, nephew McKinley Chavous IV, and a special cousin Jason Prescott. He also leaves behind a host of cherished friends whom he considered brothers.
