Charlotte Newsom Jenkins
AIKEN - Charlotte was born on November 7, 1925, to William and Irene Newsom in Logan, West Virginia. She married Clarence Jenkins in 1946. They moved to Aiken, SC in 1952, and Charlotte started work in Columbia for the Teamster's Union.
A milestone of their lives was when Clarence was recruited to work in Freeport, The Bahamas, in 1969. There, their only child, Sherry was married and brought their first grandchild into the family. They moved back to Aiken in 1972 where Charlotte worked for the City of Augusta as a key employee in Urban Renewal projects until her retirement.
Throughout her life, she and Clarence supported families in Aiken and The Bahamas who were in need.
They found joy and happiness in the church and in the gifts of family. Charlotte leaves behind her daughter, Sherry, son in law Jon Markoulis, 5 grandchildren: Charles (Kimberly), Lee Anne (Saul), Alexandra (Frederic), Kristen (Michael), and Jeremy (Ariadne); 8 great grandchildren, Amelia (George), Alexander (Miella), Anneliese, Shaun, Eleni, James, Aria, and Clara and 4 great great grandchildren: Simon, Celeste, Ismini, and Alexios. She is predeceased by Clarence her husband of 75 years.
She loved each and every child unconditionally, treating them as their own children, and taught them lessons to last a lifetime which included the importance of the family, to have a strong moral character, to give unconditional love, and so many other virtues.
In 2022 after Clarence's passing, Charlotte moved to Florida with Sherry and Jon where she was surrounded by the love of her family. On July 3rd 2025, Charlotte passed away. To her family, she and Clarence are examples of lives well lived with love, faith, family, and honor.
A memorial service will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Pine Log Road, Aiken, SC, on Saturday, August 02, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please donate to GoFundMe: Insurance Ran Out.
