CHARLES CHEATHAM Obituary

CHEATHAM, CHARLES MAYNARD "BUD" - died in his sleep Friday, March 14, 2014. He was 89 years old. Bud graduated from Young High School in 1943 and the University of Tennessee. A decorated member of the U.S. Army's 10th Mountain Division. Bud spent his entire career in mechanical design for TVA. He enjoyed dancing, singing, investments, following the UT Vols and the Seymour Eagles. Preceded in death by parents, Horace Maynard Cheatham and Beatrice Mae Scott Cheatham; sister, Nellie Ruth Stuart; brother, Lt. Col. Willard E. "Elrod" Cheatham. Survived by wife of 65 years, Elaine Barnawell Cheatham; son and daughter-in-law, Alan and Nancy Cheatham; daughter and son-in-law, Gail and Danny Greene; grandchildren and spouses, Jacob Cheatham, David and Lisa Kelley, Clint and Heather Greene, Stacy and Darla Greene; great grandchildren, Jaxon and Ava Greene; several nieces and nephews. Family and friends will meet Tuesday March 18, 2014, at Island Home Baptist Church Cemetery for a 1:00 p.m. graveside service. Bud was a caring Christian man who loved God and loved his neighbors. He gave decades of service to Island Home Baptist Church. He was honored to have been captain of the Young High School basketball team in 1943. He was a member of the Greatest Generation and was proud to have served in the elite 10th Mountain Division during WWII. He received various decorations including the Bronze Star for Bravery.
