BILLIE HALL Obituary

HALL, BILLIE NELL LESTER - age 89, of Tellico Plains, passed away Monday, January 5, 2015. She was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school and was the church treasurer until her late seventies. She and her husband, Charles, owned and operated the Tellico Telephone Company from 1954 until 1985. She was active with the Monroe County United Way, the Monroe County Tourism Council, the board of directors for Overlook Mental Health Center and the Tellico Plains Library, and Cherokee Study Club president for four terms. She was preceded in death by only five days by her husband of 71 years, Charles Hall; daughter, Pat Hall Talbott; granddaughter; Sally Wall; parents, Carl and Verona Lester; brothers, Thomas and Bob Lester; sisters, Joan Lester, Lena Holt, and Betty Moore. She is survived by daughters, Peggy Hall Wall, Pam Hall Mathews (Kent), Prissy Hall (Lynn West); and grandchildren, Lacey and Jim Wall, Leslie Talbott Tummel and Zac Talbott, Kara Mathews Israel, Luke and Ty Mathews; six great grandchildren; brother, Carl Lester, Jr.; and special friend, June Plemons. In support of continued efforts in preserving local history in her honor, in lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Charles Hall Museum, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization operated by The Charles A. and Billie L. Hall Family Foundation. The family will receive friends Friday, January 9, 2015, from 5:00 -7:00 p.m. at Myers Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 7:00 p.m. in the chapel of Myers Funeral Home with Rev. Jerry Plaster officiating and eulogy by Roberta Childress. The music will be provided by Sandy Childress, Prissy Hall, and Lynn West. Family and friends will assemble at Myers Funeral Home at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 10, 2015, and proceed to City Cemetery for the 11:00 a.m. committal service.
