William (“Bill”) Robert Slager, age 83, of St. John, IN, formerly of Chicago, IL and DeMotte, IN, entered his eternal life on August 24, 2020. He was born on February 6, 1937 to the late William and late Agnes Slager in Chicago, IL. He leaves behind his loving wife of 62 years, Anita Slager, nee Boonstra. Father of Gregg (Sue) Slager, Michael (Sally) Slager, Randy (Brenda) Slager and Jill (Jeff) Nikkel. Grandfather of Megan Slager, Todd Slager, Eric (Ashley) Slager, Nancy (Nate) Jones, Jordan Nikkel, Jocelyn Nikkel, Kyle Slager and Justin Slager. Great-grandfather of Ray Jones. Brother of the late Bernard (Betty) Slager. Uncle of four nieces and two nephews.
Bill and Anita met at Chicago Christian High School in 1956 and they were married on June 6, 1958. Bill began working in Chicago as a cement mason and worked his way up to foreman. He taught apprenticeship classes, before becoming the recording secretary and business agent for Union Local 165, which he served as until his retirement. He also worked part time as an emergency medical technician (EMT). Bill enjoyed fishing, woodworking, traveling with his wife and playing and watching his extended family play sports. He was loved by many and will be missed.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2020 from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 12:00 p.m. at Bethel Christian Reformed Church, 3500 Glenwood Lansing Road, Lansing, IL with services conducted by Rev. Cal Aardsma. (In consideration of others, please wear a mask). In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Illiana Christian High School, The Luke Society or World Renew. I have loved knowing uncle Bill since before he and Anita got married! He always had a twinkle in his eye for kids, and we sure had a lot of fun at get-togethers. I will always cherish and enjoy my memories of time with him ❤. Donna Amerine

Going to miss you Bill but Heaven just got richer. You were Master of Ceremonies at our wedding and kept us chuckling for years. We loved you but Jim can tell you that himself now. Your empty chair brings tears but I know you are healthy and filled with joy now. God bless your family.
