Warren Cagle Obituary

Warren Garlon Cagle, age 95 of Cumming, GA, went to be with his Lord on April 5, 2022.

He was born on January 2, 1927 in Jasper, GA to the late Garlon T. Cagle and Mary Darnell Cagle. He grew up in Nelson, GA and graduated high school in 1944. He was a member of America's Greatest Generation and served in the US Navy Pacific Theater from 1944 to 1946. Thanks to the GI Bill, he attended North Georgia College in Dahlonega where he received a BS degree in 1949 with a double major in History and Physics. From 1949 to 1954 he was a teacher and assistant principal at Pickens County High School.

In 1954 he began work as an Investigator with the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax Unit in Jasper, GA. He served at this post until 1960 when he transferred to the unit stationed in Moultrie, GA.

In 1962 he began work for the US Forest Service as the Investigator for the National Forests in South Carolina. In 1967 he transferred to the Regional Office in Atlanta, GA where he was promoted to Regional Investigator. In 1982 he retired as Director of Law Enforcement for the Southern Region.

He achieved a lifelong dream in 1982 when he hiked the Appalachian Trail from Georgia to Maine. This was an amazing journey of 2,150 miles.

Warren's Christian faith was central to his life. He served as deacon in Cassville Baptist Church and was a member of Helen First Baptist Church at the end of his life. He always had a special love for his church family wherever he lived.

In 2016 he moved to Gracemont Assisted Living in Cumming, GA, where he met and married Carolyn Moody Cagle. He is survived by his wife; stepson, Brad Moody (Marti) of Cumming, GA; stepdaughter, Ashlie Moody Stubbs (Jay) of Cumming, GA; step grandchildren, Larry and Ansley Moody; daughters, Terrie Cagle O'Neal (Ed) of Cleveland, GA, and Nancy Cagle Smith (Darryl) of Richmond Hill, GA; granddaughter, Amanda Smith; two great grandchildren, Lily Smith and Zachary Cannon of Richmond Hill, GA; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Colleen Tatum Cagle; his parents, Garlon T. Cagle and Mary Darnell Cagle; and his brother, James Kenneth Cagle.

Visitation is Saturday, April 9 at 10:00 AM, with a celebration of life service to follow at 10:30 AM at Cagle Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Jim Holmes officiating.

Interment will be at Jasper City Cemetery following the funeral service. Military Honors will be provided by the United States Navy.

I served as Warren and Colleen Cagle's pastor for 11 years and very much enjoyed his friendship and support to me and my family during our early years of ministry. I so much appreciated him, and his brother-in-law, Joe Lipscomb, who worked together helping others and serving their church family. Warren built us a beautiful piece of oak furniture, took me and my boys fishing and was always ready to share his sense of humor with a good story. He's the one who taught me one of life's great lessons, "Happy wife, Happy life!" He made life better for others, and blessed me beyond measure! May God give comfort and peace to his family.
