Virginia Ruth Freeman Poppell

Virginia Ruth Freeman Poppell, 81, went to be with her Lord and Savior after a short and hard-fought battle with pancreatic cancer on August 1, 2022, in Blairsville, Georgia surrounded by her loving family. Virginia was born January 17, 1941, in Perry, Florida to Bryon (Bry) and Edith (Roberts) Freeman.
She graduated from Taylor County High School in 1959 and shortly after married Jerry Poppell. Virginia’s loves and hobbies included attending church services, spending time with family and friends, singing, genealogy, reading, history, fishing and sewing. She was a member of the Tucson Primitive Baptist Church in Tucson, AZ.

She was preceded in death by her husband Jerry Pope Poppell, son Brent Alan Poppell, parents Bryon and Edith Freeman and siblings Judson (Idana) Freeman and Jerome (Myrna) Freeman.

She was the devoted and loving wife of Jerry Pope Poppell for 58 years. She loved her children, daughter Sandra Poppell of Blairsville, Ga., and son Gary Poppell of Wasilla, AK., grandchildren Craig Cunningham (Janelle), Megan Connor (Jon), Jeffrey and Kevin Poppell and Allison (Joey) Hickey, and great grandchildren Brent and Tyler Cunningham and Mollie and Gabe Connor, her siblings, Gwen Freeman and Billy (Debbie) Freeman and a host of nieces and nephews and cousins.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, August 6th, 2022, at 11 AM at Shiloh Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Tommie Stanaland officiating. Interment services will follow immediately after at Pisgah Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Friday, August 5th at Joe Burns Funeral Home of Perry. All arrangements are under the direction of Burns Funeral Home.
