Virginia “Ginny”MacLaughlin, formerly of East Rockhill Twp. and Hatfield, PA, passed away Monday, June 13, 2022, at the Community at Rockhill, West Rockhill Twp., PA. She was 97.
She was the wife of 54 years of the late Francis H. MacLaughlin until his passing on May 31, 2003.
Born in Vernfield, PA, she was the daughter of the late Laaden and Sadie (Stauffer) Bergey. She was a 1942 graduate of Hatfield High School, Hatfield, PA.
Mrs. MacLaughlin was employed by Merck & Company, West Point, PA, until retiring in 1986 after 25 years of service to the company. Previously, she worked at various jobs over the course of many years before ultimately beginning her tenure at Merck. Notably, she worked at the Philadelphia Navy Yard from 1942 to 1945.
She was a member of Heidelberg United Church of Christ, Hatfield, and the Woman’s Club of Perkasie, Perkasie, PA.
An avid reader and talented at crocheting, Mrs. MacLaughlin loved to travel. Her destinations included Europe, the West Coast, and many of the Caribbean islands; but, she especially enjoyed her trip to Greece where she climbed the Parthenon steps at the age of 84. And, for over ten years, she volunteered in the Gift and Thrift Shops at Grand View Hospital, West Rockhill Twp., PA.
She is survived by three children, Patricia M. Gammon and her husband G. Davis Gammon, M.D., of Hamden, CT, F. Scott MacLaughlin, of Perkasie, PA, and Virginia M. Winn, of Bristol, PA; seven grandchildren, Amanda Gammon, Heather M. Winn, M.D., Lucas M. Winn, Shelley MacLaughlin, Valerie MacLaughlin, Melody MacLaughlin, and Carly MacLaughlin; and two great-grandchildren, Keith MacLaughlin and Frazier Smith. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Bergey, and a sister, Gloria Kellow.
Family and friends are invited to attend her Memorial Services to be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, June 18 2022, at the Rockhill Mennonite Community Chapel, 3250 State Road, Sellersville, PA. Interment will be held privately at the convenience of the family in Whitemarsh Memorial Park, Prospectville, PA.
