Captain (Ret.) Treece B. Hunt "Pete", 89, of Palm Coast, FL passed away on Wednesday July 20, 2022 at his home, surrounded by his loving wife of 68 years and family.
Pete was born on January 30, 1933, in Lima, Ohio to the late Treece C. Hunt and Florence Hunt (Green). Pete was 1 of 14 children and grew up on a farm in Lima, Ohio. Pete enlisted in the United States Army 15 March 1948 and served his country for 45 years on active duty, in the Ohio National Guard and the Army Reserves. Those who were honored to spend time with Pete quickly learned his love for the Army, his joy of being an Airborne Paratrooper with the 101st Airborne Division based out of Ft. Campbell, KY and the absolute pride and love he had for his daughters. Pete also retired after 20 years from Ford Motor Company. After retirement and their move to Florida, he became the owner of Rails End Mobile Home and RV Park. If you couldn’t find him tinkering on his 1973 Mercedes SL or 1934 Convertible Ford Roadster with the rumble seat, most likely chances are he was sitting on one of his favorite gulf coast beaches with an ice-cold beer in his hand.
Pete is survived by his wife Diane Hunt of Palm Coast, FL; his Daughters Denise (Robert) Woodruff of Wapakoneta, OH, Tammy aka Knucklehead (Jim) Padgett of Findlay, OH, Angie (Larry) George of Oxford, FL and Carla Smith of Deltona, FL. His Grandchildren Robb (Angie) Woodruff, Kristin (John) Gossard, Dan (Mandy) Snyder, Derek (Jamie) Snyder, Kelsey aka Lovebug (Jess) Welch, Megan (Justin) Fults, Colin Padgett, Britney (Andrew) Rogers, Montana (Hayley) Smith, Andrew Hunt and Great-Grandchildren Jevin Woodruff, Reyna Woodruff, Mya Gossard, Landon Gossard, Alaric Smith, Lauryn Darnell, Zayden Rogers, Ian Rogers, Shaylin Rogers, Brooklin Rogers, Audra Snyder, Claire Snyder, Kara Snyder, Sloane Fultz, Ryder Fultz and Knox Fultz. Sister-in-law Ronelva (Wendell) Fett, and Siblings Myrna Hunt Myers, Ross Delno (Liz) Hunt, Jane Lou Hunt Wood, Loyal Hunt (Joe) (Lynn) and Connie Jo Hunt Hogan
Pete was preceded in death by his Father, Mother, Siblings William (Lavern) Hunt, Paul Hunt, Clifford (Dodie) Hunt, Doris Hunt Hartzog, (Gene), Harry Hunt, James Melvin Hunt, Clarence Otto Hunt and Brother-in-law Gary (Ophelia) McComb.
Pete will always be remembered for his big stories and as a man who had a wonderful time living life, who had good friends and an amazing family. As our hearts ache for the physical loss of him, we find serenity knowing that he is now walking in paradise watching his loved family and letting us know in his usual words “I’m just finer than frog hair.”
Interment will be held in Cape Canaveral National Cemetery at a time to be announced.
In lieu of flowers, donations should be made in Pete’s name to Tunnel to Towers Foundation, 2361 Hylan Boulevard, Staten Island, NY 10306 or at t2t.org
Pete’s family have entrusted his arrangements to Clymer Funeral Home & Cremations.
