Scott Bradley Gerhardt was born on November 14, 1979, in Breckenridge, MN.  He was the son of Brad and Nyla (Quiring) Gerhardt.  Scott attended Fairmont public schools and graduated from Fairmont High School in 1998.

On June 24, 1998, Scott left home to serve in the United States Air Force where he served as an Aircraft Structural Maintenance Journeyman while stationed at Yokota AFB in Tokyo, Japan.  Scott also furthered his education while in the military by taking classes through the University of Maryland, focusing in Psychology. Scott shared a special friendship during this time with Alisha and together, they were blessed with a son, Tyler. Scott refurbished C-130 planes until earning his honorable discharge on December 1, 2002.

Scott then attended Southern Oregon State College in Ashland Oregon for two years where he also played football. Then he moved to the Portland Oregon area and married Stephanie, this union was blessed with three children, Monet, Paxton and Brekken. Scott worked in business construction and was a property manager. They later divorced and he moved to Corvallis Oregon to attend Oregon State University. Here he earned his degree in Engineering.  Scott then was hired by Union Pacific Railroad as a manager of track maintenance which involved extensive traveling which he did for two years before settling down in Utah with a special friend, Shala.

During his free time, Scott enjoyed cooking, gardening, canning, traveling, snorkeling, and reading. He was a life-long learner. He also loved volunteering for “Engineers Without Boarders” and went to El Salvador on a mission to help purify drinking water. Scott also volunteered with “Habitat for Humanity” building houses. He was very intelligent, loved meeting people and helping people, but he also had many struggles.

“Scott was a tactician of thought, often lost in the love of perfecting the details of life.  He applied creativity and innovation to all that he was and shared.  Who our God made him to be was incredibly rare and I will always be saddened by how he and world could not come together long-term for the benefit of all.”  – Chris Gerhardt

Left to cherish his memory include his children, Tyler Heyen-Gerhardt, Grayson Gerhardt, Paxton Gerhardt, and Brekken Gerhardt; parents, Brad and Nyla Gerhardt of Fairmont, MN; brothers, Lukas Gerhardt of Billings, MT, Chris (Ashley) Gerhardt of Fairmont, MN; many aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Scott was preceded in death by his grandparents, Paul and Gloria Gerhardt, and Arnold Quiring; and cousin, John Gerhardt.

I am so sad to hear of Scott's passing. He was my neighborhood friend when we were kids and we got into all sorts of shenanigans together! I enjoyed finding him on Facebook years later and seeing the creative and intelligent person he grew into. I know his loss will leave a big hole for many. Sending kind thoughts.
