Sammie Dwight Bishop was born on August 21, 1935 to Paul Bishop and Nettie Marie (née Bell) and grew up in Mirando City, Texas.
Sam served in the US Army and worked in the oilfield. He eventually entered the trucking industry, where he would become a champion and leader for over 60 years. Sam was a long-time member of the Pleasanton Church of Christ and the Terrell Church of Christ and the Pleasant Ridge Church of Christ, serving as an Elder at Pleasanton. He also served as a volunteer regularly at the Terrell State Hospital. Sam enjoyed hunting, golf, and ranching. Sam passed peacefully the morning of July 3, 2022.
Sam is survived by his beloved wife, Janie Sue (née Mansfield); son, David Bishop (Leah); daughter, Teri Barney (Jim); granddaughters, Stephanie Barney, Khrista Roach (Trey), Amy Bishop, and great-granddaughter, AnnaBeth Roach as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and beloved friends.
Graveside service to be held at Shiloh Cemetery, Poteet, Thursday, July 14, 2022 at 11:30am.
In lieu of flowers, donations are welcome to the Share Center in Terrell, Texas or to the Church of your choice.

We will miss him so much. He was a wonderful person and it was always a pleasure to be near him. He made us laugh and appreciate life and we are thankful to have known him.

Sammy was a part of my life since I was born and he was one of the amazing "Mirando City Boys " that helped raise me. We were all blessed when he chose Janie as his bride. His family was like our family growing up and he will be hugely missed. Love you all!
