Russell Jackson, Sr. Obituary

Russell Lee Jackson, Sr., 73, departed this life on Thursday, July 21, 2022, in Oberlin, LA.  He was born August 8, 1948, to Charlie Moses Jackson and Clementine Mitchell Jackson in Oberlin, LA. 


On June 19, 1971, Russell married Lynette Thompson, and to this union two children were born, Russell Lee Jr. and Retina Shontell.

Russell was a loyal and faithful member of Progressive COGIC for over twenty years where he served and held the position as Head Deacon.

Russell worked and retired from the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development where he flourished and thrived in many aspects of the company during his time there.

Russell leaves to cherish his memories his son Russell Lee Jackson, Jr., Retina Shontell Jackson, six grandchildren, Lavail Meeks, Jr., Dylan Scott Jackson, Byron Kelon Meeks, Devon Lee Jackson, and Maddison Leigh Jackson; one great-grandson Quincy Lee Guillory; one brother Roy Lee Jackson (Gladys); one sister Birdie Lee Lavergne; his faithful, committed and dedicated niece Betty Ann Fontenot; Godson Harry Scott Artis; Goddaughter Annie Marie Berry; and a host of nephews, nieces, family, and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, and two sisters as well as his niece Brittany Marshall.


Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 30, 2022, at 9:00 a.m., and the funeral service at 11:00 a.m., at Progressive COGIC, 712 8th Street, Oberlin, LA.  Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery in Kinder, LA, under the direction of King’s Funeral Home.
