Roger Thompson Obituary
Memorial Services for Roger C. Thompson, 75, of East Chain, MN will be held at 4:30 PM on Tuesday, April 12, 2022 with a meal and visitation following the service until 7:00 PM at Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont. Burial will be held at a later date at Oakwood Cemetery in East Chain. Roger passed away on Thursday morning, April 7, 2022, at Valley Vue Care Center in Armstrong, IA. The Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.
Roger Cecil Thompson was born on October 1, 1946 to Merwin and Helen (Zoeller) Thompson in Fairmont, MN. He graduated from Minnesota School for the Deaf in Faribault, MN and then went on to graduate from Gallaudet University in Washington D.C in 1970.
Roger was united in marriage to Donna Bosek on July 17, 1971 in Riverside, IL. Roger grew up on the farm and farmed and raised breeding hogs for many years. In 1992, Roger decided to find time to slow down and smell the roses after quitting the large-scale swine production. He bought land and completed a log cabin project at the end of the Gunflint Trail on the shores of Lake Saganaga and Sea Gull River. Roger loved the outdoors and spent many winters up at the cabin where he was able to do his favorite things including reading, canoeing, fishing, cross country skiing, and feeding and identifying birds.
Those left to cherish his memory include his children, Tony Thompson, Tara (Justin) Thedens and Todd (Malorie) Thompson; grandchildren, Oliver and Nola Thedens and Elsa, Vaughn and Deacon Thompson; brother-in-law, Wallace Christ; mother of Roger’s children, Donna Bosek; and other extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Merwin and Helen Thompson; sister, Marilyn Christ; and niece, Kristin Christ.

Karyl and I are deeply saddened and very sorry to learn that Roger was gone. He was my roommate at the Gallaudet University during my junior year and often told me about his famous farm. He was my best man at the wedding in Watertown, South Dakota. Our deepest condolences go to his family and friends. May God bless him!

Roger was my classmate of 1965 at MSD we attended Gallaudet. Roger invited me to his parents place during spring break when we were sophomores ( I think ) Roger taught me about farming that was my wonderful experience. Then we met once ( I don’t remember where ). Maybe it was a cruise trip to Alaska for class reunion. I recalled one thing that Roger talked about his log cabin that he used from trees on his lot. Then we did not cross our paths again. Wish we could once have an opportunity but we may see each other in the heaven Good bless him!

I met Roger and Donna and the three kids at his sister Marilyn's wedding-she married my cousin Wally-I also met the family at the church in East Chain on several occasions-such a close knit family-my hugs to everyone especially just suffering the loss of Kristin-sympathies to all!-sara (christ) vriesen
