Pedro Pena Sr. Obituary
Pedro Mendez Pena of Devine passed away at the age of 82. He was born in Pearsall, Texas on January 25,1939 to Cruz and Petra Pena.
In his youth Pedro (Pete) was a member of the Boy Scouts of America where he earned many badges. Later his interests changed to farming and ranching. He began farming in Pearsall and in his later years in Devine.
He was a member of the San Antonio Farmer's Market Association where he served as President for several terms. He was also a member of St Joseph Catholic Church where he and his wife Maria served as Eucharistic Ministers. They also traveled to area prisons for 18 years on behalf of St Joseph Catholic Church to minister the Word of God. His faith and humility was felt by all he met and he will be greatly missed.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Florencio and Cruz Pena, sisters, Maria Ignacia Cox, Maria Guadalupe Garcia, Maria Teresa Aguilar, Sons, Jose Antonio Pena, Jose Lewis Pena and great granddaughter Arianna Aguinaga.
He is survived by his wife, Maria De Jesus Pena, sisters, Marcos (Abel) Moncada and Martha (Alejandro) Rendon.
Children: Jose Lorenzo Pena, Jose Angel (Elizabeth) Pena, Pedro (Tanya) Pena Jr., Alvino (Velma) Saldana, Alberto (Irma) Saldana, Dora (Juan) Peralta, Emma (Jose) Reyes and Celia (Jesus) Rios. Also survived by 11 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Monday August 2, 2021, 3:00PM-6:45PM at the Hurley Funeral Home chapel with a Rosary being recited at 7:00PM at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Mass will be celebrated Tuesday August 3, 2021, at 10:00AM at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Pearsall with interment to follow in Pearsall Catholic West cemetery.

When I ran into Mr. and Mrs. Pena at St. Joseph's (Devine) or around the Devine area, they were so kind and humble. In these times, they are examples for all of us how people should treat each other. Their Pena Farms gave so much of their bounty to the Communities, where they were born/raised and lived. They also gave their all to their Son, Jose Antonio.
May Mr. Pena and Jose Antonio, rest in the Hands of the Lord forever. May their souls and the souls of all the faithfully departed rest in peace.
Prayers for Mrs. Pena and Family; knowing that Mr. Pena lived doing simple, but great things for their fellow man.

What a wonderful man Mr. Pena was. I always enjoyed visiting with him. He was a gentle and kind man. He surely will be missed. RIP, Mr.PETE.
