Marilynn Elaine Waterhouse was born to the union of Maurice Laverne Huston and Thyme Manetro Givings on October 17th, 1955, in Bristow, Oklahoma. After a few months in Bristow, the mother and child moved to Wichita, KS to start a new chapter in life.
While living in Wichita, Marilynn would receive her formal education from the Wichita Public School System and graduate from South High School in 1972. After high school, she went to nursing college, truck driving school and graduated from NAU with her degree in Accounting. Marilynn spent much of her early life working in the customer services industry. Afterwards, she completed a lifelong goal of becoming a Truck Driver. She spent 15 years as a long-haul driver, seeing every inch of the contiguous United States and Canada. When her long-haul days had come to an end, she became a local city bus driver for the Wichita Transit Authority. She dedicated herself to learning every one of her routes and the people that rode them. At any given time, you could find her conversing with her riders or other drivers about any subject, even becoming a Union representative for the last few years of her service. She retired from the WTA in April of 2021.
In her personal life, she was married 4 times and gave birth to 5 children, 1 girl and 4 boys. She was a reading enthusiast, reading everything that she could. She was also very pro-black, to the point that you might even call her militant. Yet, it never stopped her from caring about people. She loved nature and just being out in it and taking photos of it. Most of all, though she was very fine being alone, she loved her family and being with them. Nothing made her happier.
She is preceded in death by both parents and her daughter, K’Tanya Lott. Her surviving family members include her brother, Marc Manuel; children: Jeffery Manuel (Brenda), Mu’arice Thompson (Kim), Dominic Smith (Shontee), and Gary Young, Jr. (Amanda). Grandchildren: Cornelius, McKynna, Makayla, Daryl, Ron Jr, Travis, Cameronique, Gianni, DeKiylleigh, Giuliana, Bresha, Xavier, Maya and Melanie. Along with a host of great grandchildren, aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces and cousins. Little girl lost, you have found your way home, into the arms of the one who loves you. Rest now in green pastures.

I had the pleasure training Marilynn at CR England in Salt Lake City,Utah. Very exceptionally ,fast learner and always safety was upmost first priorities. Didn’t matter the highway or weather when she graduated her knowledge kept you safe. Training in the Rocky Mountains is no joke with always 80,000 lbs refrigeration freight Marilynn handled it. East, west north and south and Canada she was definitely a driver. Remarkable would have to be her grade. She loved her family always so proud of them no matter what they chose for their life. Her mom was her Rock. Always will love you my dear friend. Rest in Peace.

Our beloved Marilynn will be missed. Marilyn was a wonderful person. Marilyn was my union Steward at the Wichita Transit and she fought for you as hard as she could. Marilynn gave you a voice when you thought you didn't have one. Marilynn was always keeping it 100 with you weather you like it or not. Marilynn was a beautiful person. I know she is in a better place. My thoughts and Prayers to the family.

Marilyn was tough as nails. She had been around the block more than once. She loved her friends dearly and she loved being a South High school alumni. She said what she meant and she meant what she said. I will miss her, but never forget her. God speed Ms Marilyn.

Marilynn was a great friend and colleague who always had a smile on her face and had your back when needed. I know that she will be missed by all of her coworkers at Transit Department and her family. I know that she was looking forward to retirement and enjoying her family and grandchildren. She will be missed by all the people that knew her.
