Loney “Sonnie” Melvin Keplinger Jr., age 77, passed away on Wednesday, June 1, 2022, at Grant Memorial Hospital with his loving wife by his side. He was a resident of Grant Rehabilitation and Care Center and formerly of Jordan Run, WV. Sonnie was born on February 25, 1945 in Harrisonburg, VA, the son of the late Loney Melvin Keplinger Sr. and Gladys (Phares) Keplinger. On June 20, 1975, he married his wife Delores Dean (Turner) Keplinger who survives on Jordan Run.
Sonnie was a 1964 graduate of Petersburg High School and a Christian by faith. He worked as a poultry farmer, retiring from Rockingham Poultry and was a member of the WV Poultry Growers Association. He enjoyed listening to WVU football and basketball games, reading, and singing gospel music with the Keplinger Family. One of his greatest pleasures in life was to ride around on the family farm and up on the ridge with his children. Sonnie will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband and father.
In addition to his wife, Sonnie leaves behind to cherish his memories: 2 daughters, Priscilla Beach (James) of Mt. Crawford, VA; Adonica Keplinger of Jordan Run, WV; 2 sons, Nathan Keplinger (Michelle) of Jordan Run, WV; Stephen Keplinger of Jordan Run, WV; a sister, Mary Berg (Roy) of Jordan Run, WV; 4 Grandchildren and 1 Great Grandchild. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Dorcas Lonenette Keplinger.
Sonnie’s family will receive friends on Saturday, June 4, 2022, 5-8 PM at the Basagic Funeral Home in Petersburg, WV. Funeral services will be on Sunday, June 5, 2022 at 2 PM in the funeral home chapel with Pastors Tom Shaum and Laurel Eby officiating. Interment will be in the Keplinger Family Cemetery in Maysville, WV. Memorials may be made to the family in care of the Basagic Funeral Home, POB 400 Petersburg, WV 26847.
