Leona Darton Obituary

Leona Kay Elmer Darton, age 83 peacefully passed away in her home surrounded by family Monday, December 27, 2021.

She was born on February 3, 1938, in Payson, Utah to Rex Elmer and Wilma Haycock Elmer.  She was the oldest of three children. She married John W. Bardin May 3, 1956. They had three children. They were later divorced. She met Larry at a church dance. She married her sweetheart Lawrence J. Darton on September 17, 1976, in the Salt Lake Temple. She was his special lady.

Kay grew up in Payson, Utah graduating from Payson High School.  She worked in elementary schools as a school secretary and then worked for the Jordan School District in the student accounting department.  She retired in 1998. After retirement she and Larry spent many years traveling extensively. They traveled Canada from coast to coast. They visited 49 out of 50 states. They also enjoyed a cruise down the west coast and through the Panama Canal. Many of their trips were made so Kay could complete some family history research.

She was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in the presidency of the Relief Society and many other callings. Kay and Larry fulfilled a mission serving at the Los Angeles Family History Center 1998 - 2000. She loved indexing and was one of the top indexers in her stake. She enjoyed crocheting hats and gloves and made blankets and would donate them to children’s charities.

Kay and Larry loved each other for 45 years. They were often seen holding hands. Kay was a loving and devoted mother to Kathalene Domgaard (Paul), Gregory J. Bardin (Jill), Cindy Mikesell (Steven). She also loved Larry’s kids as if they were her own. Steven F. Darton (Paula), Shyvonne M. Stutes (Rolin), Lawrence K.” Larry Klin” Darton (Shauna), Kayleen Webb (Thaes III “Sandy”), Kristine Daley and Douglas W Darton (Blenda). She was loved and adored by her 32 grandchildren and 58 great-grandchildren. She was loved by her younger siblings Mae (Kendell) Ewell and George Rex (Shirlynn) Elmer.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter Kathy, her brother George, brother-in-law Kendell, her stepson Larry Klin, and son-in-law Rolin.
