JOSEPH RETZEEL “JOE CUDA” WOODARD, 50

Joseph Retzeel “Joe Cuda” Woodard passed away on Tuesday, January 25, 2022 in Wytheville Community Hospital. He was 50.

Joe was born on March 15, 1971 in Pensacola, Florida to Hoke Smith Woodard, Jr and Erlene Villaluz Woodard. He lived in Austinville, Virginia with his wife, Amy Young Woodard, and daughters Leanne and Rylee Woodard.

Voted “Happiest” in high school, Joe had a contagious smile. He lived life with an enthusiasm that was felt by all who knew him. He never met a stranger. Joe’s family and friends meant the world to him. He never stopped planning new adventures they could have together - horseback riding, kayaking, ATV riding, skiing, and all things cars and trucks. Joe had a special love for one car - his lime green 1970 Plymouth Cuda. He will forever be remembered as “Joe Cuda” by those who knew and loved him.

In addition to Amy, Leanne and Rylee, Joe is survived by his mother, Erlene Lowell, step-father Mark Lowell, sister Charlene Folds (Joe), brothers John Woodard (Betsy), Benny Woodard (Jean), David Lowell (Jenna), sister Hope Elisha Woodard and step-mother Evelyn D. Woodard. He was preceded in death by his father, Hoke Smith Woodard, Jr and his brother Steve Woodard.

Oh jeez where to begin. My heat goes out to you aunt Amy, lee lee and ryry❤ I know I can speak for the rest of the woodard family when I say that we all love you guys so much and if you ever need anything we will always be here. I can’t remember a single time I ever didn’t see a smile on uncle joes face. He was such a happy person and could light up the room. I remember when y’all were teaching me to ride as I was going up the hill on the side of the house he would scream “PUT YOUR HEELS DOWN GIRL”. Also my love for his car. Since I’ve been 5 years old his 70’ cuda was my dream car. My mom wouldn’t let me even try to get it and I know he wouldn’t have given his 3rd child up but it was. Because of my love for it I ended up getting my 2019 Dodge Challenger and I didn’t even want one if I couldn’t get it in the sublime green. My dad searched online for months if not years trying to find a good one for me and finally we got one and I copied uncle joes plate. His was “joe cuda” and mines “em cuda”. It will always be a reminder for me of him Thank you uncle joe for everything you did for me over the years and treating me like I was another daughter to you (I mean I was the test baby to see if y’all wanted kids) I love you so much and you will be missed dearly.
